Thanks all, looks like it is going to be a new hdd recorder with built in dual tuners then. Guess I will have to use the old set top box for now if I want to record any of the freeview channels.

Do some Digital TVs have the ability to output the freeview channels, so that you dont always have to replace the recording device whether it is an old VCR or DVD recorder?

Yes but obviously you can only record what you are actually watching on the TV, which is a bit pointless for most people.

not sure if by hi-jacking this thread a reply was meant for me or not

my query/problem is I can't seem to pick up a picture off my new TV (Freeview/freesat)

on the previous TV, I'm pretty certain I could still record from freeview channel by selecting AV2 (or similar input channel)

I could also see the freeview channel via the correctly selected video input channel

however, on my new tv despite several attempts I can't seem to see the freeview picture

have tried to record via the video input source, during several attempts, I have had either the freeview picture or a blank black srceen

my question is how am I supposed to set the timer to record something on the DVD recorder as I can't see the tv channel through the DVD (which I was able to in the past)

    TIA
