Thanks for the well-wishes guys
have really been feeling quite rubbish, as is mrtyo so we have mainly been hibernating on sofa- quite a pathetic pair!! :rotfl:
long time since Ive had anything near "proper" flu (ie, not just a bad cold) and forgot how miserable it is! feeling a little better today just hoping Ill be well enough for a busy week of work this week!0 -
Mornin:wave:
Im back in the land of the living! :rotfl:
we have been pretty wiped out the last week with flu (God I forgot how horrible it is!) but pretty much okay now
It meant money saving in some areas as was too ill to go out as planned last weekend, but we have probably spent more on medicine and convenience food as nothing we had in was appealing! still - cant help being ill and certainly dont begrudge us money to get well again!
have also ended up overspending on a xmas do we had as it ended up as one of those "lets just split the bill" despite the fact some had had 3 courses and wine and others only a main and a soft drink! ...ah well only once a yr I guess and will be mindful for next time!
also an extra hundred quid gone out on some work in the place we rent out - not unreasonable just hadnt budgeted it in my mind so savings are looking a bit more pathetic this month!
Have been paid now but must remember it has to last till end of jan so not touching it till after xmas! there is nothing I need and other than possibly meeting with friends for a few drinks before xmas no big spends planned ...
in MF news still making my £10 p/m OP (so should only take me another hundred years to pay it off at this rate!! ) but from end of jan should know how much I am being paid and can therefore OP
have enough in savings now to cover most emergencies which is a great change from when this all started ! :T
I did get home the other day to mrtyo saying "I saw some nice houses for about £300K that we could get" to which I replied he better get on with paying these mortgages down first as there is no way on earth I am taking on three hundred thousand pounds worth of debt!!!:rotfl:
quiet weekend as we have fairly heavy snow here, had to cancel lunch with a friend as a result as both felt driving an hour in this to meet would be stupid! but a shame as was really looking forward to catching up , but have another friend comine round this evening (snow permitting) so no money spending planned!
mite do a little add up of this months grocery spends to see how much we have left -at least we are at friends and then mrtyos family for xmas so should get fed a few times over the next couple of weeks to save us cooking at least!
have a good weekend all , off to make another cuppa I think while I look out at the snow!0 -
good news! havent gone over budget with the food shop! need to stretch it another few weeks tho so might be things outta tins for the next couple of weeks! I mite have to post a storecupboard challenge on the OS board as it gets nearer to payday! :rotfl:0

Made it out in the snow for lunch with a friend- under £10 so not too bad
got a few bits n pieces of food shopping to well and truly see us thru xmas and a bit of next months spending money out! gonna be a bit of a skint month for personal spends so will need to be creative! (probably will have about £80 to spend!) library and friends for books n dvds to keep occupied methinks- but we do have some cinema and restaurant vouchers so can use them up perhaps too!
just been sat with a cuppa watching a programme about people living in the islands of the outer hebrides in scotland- sure it would also be hard work, but love the idea of people living off the land and being self sufficient! maybe one day... (then again not sure Id have a clue what to do with a chicken or a load of sheep or cows! :rotfl:)
All looks good for the start of 2011 - worked out we are both able to save/OP about £750 each a month so £1500 between us
there are more things we could probably do to be more energy efficient- heating in particular and tv are on a lot of the day and at different times (due to us often working different shifts) so electric coming in around £100 p/m (we dont have gas) ...
apart from that need to research weezl's site for food I think to get some more ideas for recipies and batch cooking and be more mindful of when I shop to make the most of whoopsies and bargains in the supermarkets and also where to get the cheapest milk and bread as big supermarket normally isnt it!
one thing I do want/need for 2011 is a printer - i have a couple of amazon vouchers which I might try and put towards one or maybe see if I can join freecycle - only want a basic one whichll print out on word etc so nothing flashy!
2011-2012 mite be the year for selling one of our places too , not sure yet which one will get them both valued nearer spring I reckon and make decision then
may take £100 out at the start of the yr as a clothes shopping budget - dont necessarily need many now but may try and get some bargains in the sales/ post xmas charity shops! may need some more boots as mine are starting to slightly come apart!
present box will be made a start on too this yr- have a couple of bits n bobs Ive bought/collected thru the year and some bath and hair stuff I could make into a hamper or some sort- want to have more crafty/homemade type pressies next yr - also gonna hit the post xmas sales for some bits..
other than that I imagine 2011 will also find me rambling along on here as usual to anyone bored enough to listen!
hope everyone is staying safe and warm in this snow

Hello - glad to hear you're feeling better.
2011 is sounding like a fab year for you. OP's are sounding fab :j, you really will notice the difference with that sum of money. And possibly selling too, exciting!
Will PM you about printer, I'm sure i have one to freecycle if you want it, it will currently be in some box in the house but could probably dig it out in the new year.
Will you be joining us on the Crazy £100 clothes challenge then? I have really enjoyed it (and still have £4.50 to go crazy with until the end of the year - oxfam won't know what's hit it :rotfl:).
Keep rambling on, I'm definitely interested in hearing how your craft, food planning and present box are getting on - I want to pick up lots of tips from you!
