    Main problem I see is youve still parts of AVG 8 and AVG 9 running!

    Use the 32 bit AVG removal tool
    http://www.avg.com/download-tools

    ........................................................................................

    Download HostsXpert
    http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/Hoster-Download-27041.html
    and then follow the below steps.

    * Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    * It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    * Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    * click the Make Writeable? button.
    * click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    * Click the X to exit the program

    What does HostsXpert do? Watched a video on it - think I understand: just replaces the hosts file to the original conditions? Ah and malware would change the instructions in the host files. It makes sense.

    You need to be logged in as an administrator

    Then I guess your account is the administrator... Your password for your account didn't work?

    I have never used a password but have even now added one.

    when I do "run as" gives me the options of my account (where I get the same error message as before) or administrator when it asks for password, it doesn't accept the one I have just set up.
