Your link is to a limited survey of 650 Londoners, from 2006.

Not really a great example to use.

To be fair, tap water in different areas varies considerably too.

Taste may only be one factor when buying different types of water, maybe some people don't like drinking the following:

    Typical Tap Water Content:
    • Chlorine
    • Fluorine compounds
    • Trihalomethanes (THMs)
    • Salts of:
      • arsenic
      • radium
      • aluminium
      • copper
      • lead
      • mercury
      • cadmium
      • barium
    • Hormones
    • Nitrates
    • Pesticides

Hmm I would say, without being a statistician, that 650 surveyed overcomes any margin for error. Also did you know that bottled water contains signifcantly more bacteria than tap? 100 times more in some cases.

Perhaps thats why some people like the taste.

    This is going off topic.

The OP originally said tap water wasn't practical, so that is good enough for me.

Like I said the survey you used wasn't a great example, it was for a relatively small number of people, in one specific area.

Bottled water such as Spring or Mineral, is bottled at source with relatively very little treatment compared to tap water.

The reason there is less bacteria in tap water is probably due to all the chemicals that kill everything.

Personally I have nothing against tap water, except the taste, I use it regularly for dilute drinks, but if I wanted plain water I would go for bottled or filtered.

Absolutely your choice, thought I thought this site was about saving, not wasting, money?

And its also here for advice. Accept that the OP has made their choice, they are looking for bottled water. I am quite sure they are aware tap water is cheaper but its not what they are looking for!

And there is a taste to some bottled water- not all but some and my partner even tried a blind taste on me. I won! I could taste the difference every time !

OP, have you seen the new Brita filter jugs? this could be something to look into- easily refillable and the gimmik of the coloured jars with the filter could go down nicely- also reusable.
