that is worth considering...it is is a very remote area and apparantly locals struggle to get broadband connection running well.O2 is the one that gets best reception though. Will look into that too.

Dogs are a bit of a double edged sword. My local makes a fuss of dogs, which the dog owners love and I quite like. Some of my friends get annoyed by dogs barking or coming in wet - although oddly enough never by the dog fights, which do quite upset me. Lots of dog owners are really nice and wouldn't dream of bringing a badly behaved aggressive dog into a pub, but not all of them.

One idea about the kids menu is to have it as an all inclusive - ie kids meal (or half portion of adults) plus drink and a little bowl of ice cream for a set amount - I'm happy paying for a nice meal for them but I always feel that I am being ripped off when you are charged a fortune for a tiny draught lemonade and a scoop of vanilla ice cream afterwards. Just an idea - I know a lot of the profit comes from drinks.
Also if you had a couple of photocopied pictures for them to colour in and crayons in a pot that would be perfect. The pub sounds lovely by the way!

Good pub meals are plentiful in my county, and are very good value too. I like seafood, lamb, duck, with a goats cheese starter usually.

A good carvery can be nice too.

I like the idea of all inclusive childrens meal, maybe have different sized portions/prices for different ages. I dont mind paying for good food but do sometimes feel a little ripped off (although am not being really) when my 2 and 5 year olds who eat the tiniest amount possible pay the same as a strapping 11 year old

    Any update on opening?

I second a good roast with proper roast potatoes ot a steak and ale pie. For vegetarians anything that does not have goats cheese in it as restaurants assume that all vegetarians like goats cheese which some of us cannot stand even the smell of it!
For puds rather than the usual sticky toffee pudding or cheesecake which everywhere does how about raspberry and apple crumble with clotted cream icecream or lemon posset topped with raspberries and seved with shortbread (the posset is not difficult to do and can be made several hours in advance and kept in fridge).

"Do you prefer real chips or frozen"

If you are asking that then I assume you are interested in catering rather than cooking.

Nothing wrong with packet food, some of it can be very good, just don't pass anything off as "home cooked" or similar.

Just checked in again...this is great info..As for doing frozen chips..the only reason i mentioned them was because in previous pubs i have worked, children turn thier noses up at real chips!! Well real is all we are doing now, cooked in duck fat!
We are going to be opening next Thu the 12th.and its in a tiny hamlet called Welby,4 miles out of Grantham. We have been slowly moving in upstairs, and now its getting really close..im excited!
To quote a comment earleir from lucylucky, yes its cooking not catering!.I have learnt a few things in last few days..if you read on a menu that food is "home cooked" then it is factory made, bought in and microwaved. You can say this because you are warming it up/cooking it on home ground. To say "homemade" is totally different.Made at home by our own chef, and cooked at home.Dont be fooled by home cooked signs again.
