policeman driving using a phone!!

Options
There was a police van that we passed just pulling in to a side street. I looked to see him on his mobile!!!! I can't believe it. He may have pulled over but that was while speaking on the phone.

Really is one rule for one, one for another.

It really hate people who drive and use there phones there is absolutly no need for it and normally you can spot them a mile off driving dangerously but looks like the police are ok to do it.

I've seen that a couple of times and it bugs me that if it was anyone else they would be pulled over straight away.

I got in a taxi last night as well and the driver was updating his facebook on his phone whilst driving us home. He did put it down though when I asked him and told him to concentrate on getting us home safely.

i think police are exempt from this rule.

it angers me too cos my boyfriend got 3 points and a £60 fine for being parked at the side of the road using his phone. he didnt realise that the car engine had to be turned off as it still constitutes as driving!!! to be honest i wasnt aware of this either!

The police are not exempt, they have to comply with road traffic regulations just like the rest of us, except in emergency situations only when there is a degree of 'flexibility' providing it does not endanger the general public.

it is annoying but if there chasing the bad guys, lets cut them some slack.

Hopefully they will have been on a advance driving course before they get to turn the steering wheel.

The police are not exempt from the phone rule, infact they can't use their radio whilst driving either now!

Most forces have will take action against officers in this situation, it really isn't one rule for one and one for another! There are only a few exceptions that police (and other emergency services) can use like Red Lights, Keep Left signs & speed limits etc... Everything else they MUST follow including parking regulations & bus lanes!
These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!

I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!

This thread reminded me of something. We went to Florida a few years back and got a taxi from the hotel. The guy was on his CB with one had, mobile with the other and he was steering with his knees. My husband and I just looked at each other and ....

And the US police would be there, donut in one hand, coffee in the other, phone on shoulder and all perfectly legal
