Yes, lots of bank employees are ignorant of (or pretend they are ignorant of) the Direct Debit Guarantee. If necessary, print out this explanation from the Ombudsman, show it to them, and insist that (a) you are not leaving the branch until they have actioned your refund, and (b) you will demand compensation for any delay.

Many thanks guys for all your help. I have had money refunded by bank via dd. I will be taking this as far as I can as I think the whole system is very unfair. I just think of the hundreds if not thousands of people this may of happened to and they haven't realised.

Hi Mr Mcgovern,

AS previously advised we need to confirm if the old account was with TalkTalk or AOL. As both brands are still operable as separate entities referring to TalkTalk/AOL doesn't differentiate enough for us to support you.

If this was in reference to a TT account please register on the TTMF Forum and we can support you with this issue.
