Recording from iplayer or the radio?

Options
During last week there was a half hour programme on Radio 4, which my mother would have loved although she is currently away. It's still on iplayer (which she doesn't have access to) for a couple of days. Is there a way I can record this for her from the iplayer? I wish I'd known or I'd have taped it with a good old fashioned tape recorder!

In fact, in general how do you record radio programmes in these modern days?!!

DS

Thanks

of course, you shouldn't use it to record anything that has copyrighted material in, but you can record anything passing through your soundcard with (free) software such as audacity. In the particular case of iplayer, there are tools (at the end of a google search) that will let you download the file direct from the bbc site (quicker ane easier than recording a stream in real time).

    Play program with iPlayer

Press Stop at conclusion of programme

    Thank you.

What does line out look like and what kind of cable do I need to make the connection?

If your tape recorder has the standard L & R phono inputs (circular sockets colour coded white and red), then typically you'll need a stereo 3.5mm jack - twin phono lead.

Most soundcards have 3.5mm line out, look for a socket colour-coded Lime Green. This can double as a headphone socket, depending on the soundcard - so if you don't get a signal at teh tape deck, check volume settings on your computer.

Older soundcards may not have the colour coding, and you may find a legend stamped into the metal next to the sockets, or you may have to consult your computer or soundcard manuals/documentation/maker's website.

Maplin, PC World, Comet, Currys should all have leads like this.

If the radio show is still avavlable on iPlayer and you have a computer with Windows you can use a program called 'Radio Downloader'.

Thanks everyone. I like the simplicity of the radio downloader, but I can't see how, once it's downloaded, I can convert it to whatever I need to play the cd on a cd player for my mother, she doesn't have a computer, but does have a gorgeous cd player. So I think I probably need to use the line out etc option and put it onto a cassette for her.

Thanks again, I've learned some useful things here

Edited to say, ah I think Audacity will do what I want, will keep playing with this!!

Well, I suppose your next question might be:-
'How do I make an audio CD from an mp3 file?'
