With a fair part of the suspension system on it's way out, I'd say it'll get quite costly all at once. Also makes me wary of the owner's attitude towards maintainance.0

wots a rough figure inc labour? as could haggle the price down. £200 or more?0
-
hi dont know how much the car is but its gonna be a costly repair when most garages charge around 50-60 pound per hour for labour thats without the partsand you looking at a days work at least unless u know a cheap mechanic id say walk away there will always be a better car around the corner hth0

wishbone is a lower suspension arm...
to be fair they are only advisories they are exactly that... testers opinon.. they may not be advised next time they may fail or may pass.. ive had a slight play in suspension bushes for 2 years on a fiesta i owned.. different mot centre each time so it goes to show..
to be fair that isnt that much tbh..
worse case :
2x wishbones (£20 each from a factor)
2x droplinks ( couple of pound each)
2x axle bushes (depends how these are fiitted) will be pennys its the fitting that costs !!!!
2x coil springs (around £10er a piece)
circa £80ish in parts plus a couple of hours labour..Sealed pot challenger # 10
1v100 £15/3000 -

I dont know the specifics for this car but I'd be surprised if the repairs came out that cheaply.
OP - if it was me I'd look for a different car with less problems, there should be enough of them about.0 -
He did say he has a new wishbone. Does it cover any points above
Can be only 80 plus labour? are those the parts thats needed as can ask around0 -
That MOT is either by a new tester or someone who has been bitten before. The car passed its MOT and is legal, the advisories, while set out to be helpful to the owner and draw their attention to minor, potential future defects, descend into farce when he has noted corroded coil springs. Have a look under any car, and unless its brand new, you will find corrosion there!
If your really wanting the car, take along a knowledgeable friend, but be wary of second hand diesels, they may be cheaper to run, but they are a whole lot more to fix when they go wrong.0 -
I think colino has hit the nail on the head with this one. Price up the bits (don''t bother with springs unless your mechanic gets excited about them) and take it from there. Doesn't sound too bad too me.
If the engine is sound might turn out to be a good buy. Use the advisories to haggle on the price.
I assume it is fairly old so most cars of a similar age will have similar problems.0 -
its a 2001 car. good price listed as similar petrol ones around the same price. Usually wouldnt bother if it had all these advisories. Diesal are harder to find and sell quick hence asking questions.0

I'd say, as a ballpark figure, your looking at about an hours labour each corner to do the lot. Parts prices given above look about right if you shop around. As already said, let your friendly mechanic decide on the springs. They are made of thick, high tensile steel so if the MOTer was just mentioning surface rust then it's not worth getting all excited about and he'll keep putting that as an advisory for the next 10 years plus.0
