Dry dog bags

I am wondering what you intelligent and erudite caring pet owners think of dry dog bags?
I had one for my late lamented GSD x Collie, who died a year ago aged 15.
For those not in the know, its like a dressing gown for dogs. When they come home from a muddy/wet walk, you sit them on it and zip them up (after a drink of water of course) and they dry out, don't ruin the carpets and the mud drops off in the bag.
Adored Kate occasionally did the sack race in hers, but generally lay down and slept until dry.
I found two in the garage, nearly new, I will give one to a friend and keep one for our next dog, unless you guys convince me it is unkind.
I'm not going to justify their use, I'm open minded, if you clever guys in the know say they're unkind, I will get rid.

Lol I dont know about being unkind but i do know what would happen should I try and get TJ in one. hahaha well first off I would need to catch him. My view is if it works for you then thats ok.
We just use towels
Chris n tJRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. Always in our hearts xxxHe is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.0 -

I think it depends entirely on how you use it and how happy the dog is - for example, if you shoved a scared, nervous sort of dog into one with no preperation, and left it to struggle and panic then clearly that would be cruel! (and I am sure you would never do that anyway!)
...however, if you encouraged the dog to see it as a nice place to be, and the dog gradually learns to associate the bag with getting some treats, praise, a fuss and a nice lie down.. then no, I cant see there would be any thing remotely cruel about that!0 -

Thanks Tooch Kate learned to lie down and go to sleep, as the concluding part of her walk.foreign_correspondent wrote: »I think it depends entirely on how you use it and how happy the dog is - for example, if you shoved a scared, nervous sort of dog into one with no preperation, and left it to struggle and panic then clearly that would be cruel! Thankyou - yes, I am probably sometimes too straight down the line I think!!
Sorry to hear you no longer have a dog - I have always really missed having a mutt when I havent had one around. It's difficult if the timing isn't good for you though.. hope it's just a temporary state of affairs.0 -
Well Kate went into organ failure at 15 and I got the vet out to put her to sleep. It was traumatic and horrible, and as we all do, I thought never again.
But the house is not the same without a dog, but we work full time, something will have to give.
We tried to explain to Lab Rescue that there is someone at home virtually all the time (with my children) but they weren't having any.
I can see why, we're not there all day to train.
It is frustrating though, Kate came from a council estate in Bristol, she had never been out of the house until 6 months. She attacked everything on wheels, wearing a hat, carrying something, and we trained her out of it.
God knows we loved that dog and gave her a good life.
Ho hum. Please do not confuse me with other gratefulsforhelp. x0 -
Some rescues are perfectly happy to home with full time workers, so long as the dog is ok at being left, and suitable provisions are made... so do not give up! You did a great job with Kate and I am sure you will find the right dog, at the right rescue, for you! Which part of the country are you in?0
