Im going to oz in september as i know the iphone is rendered useless abroad unless your willing to pay shocking charges. So my idea is get it unlocked (which O2 do for free) and get a oz data pay as you go sim. Its only the tinterweb i want to use to be able to use the gps and stuff to find places to go. Does anyone know of a decent sim i can get and where to get it?

Those are the three big providers in aus, have a look yourself for what would suit you best.

FYI though they call their PAYG "pre-paid" and i believe that you refill them when and by how much you want, but i think that you only have a month or so to use it before it disappears so look into this too so you dont top up loads and have it all go missing
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

Telstra Next G runs on 850 3g - the network iPhone was designed for, 2100 is for Europe ;)

Telstra - for data only, get a 2dollar sim from Woolworths, AU Post, Kmart or Target, select long life offer, recharge, buy 30day data Plus Pack

    $ 5 = 20mb
    10 150mb
    20 300mb
    39 750mb
    49 2GB
    79 4GB

Long life gives you 6 months usage on the recharge with Telstra but there is better ways....

Example: top Recharge $100 get 500 minutes X network & 1000 texts plus your $100 recharge on Telstra
Prepaid Talk & Text plan !

Recharge within 30 days and your mins and texts roll over (but not Plus Packs) so it's cheaper than contract in AU - contracts are for new phones in AU, prepaid is cheaper than contract (opposite of UK)
Then buy Plus Packs off the $100, Plus Packs can be data, text, pic texts, talk, international calling packs.

Ask anything away, I used Telstra prepaid in the past.
If I helped or saved you money - Thank me
If I helped you spend some money - spank me
    If I done both - :lipsrseal me:eek:
    :D
    ;)

one thing to remember with the official o2 unlock is phone needs to be connected to itunes after putting in different sim card so make sure you do it before going unless taking laptop with you
