Wood Flooring VS carpet

I prefer solid wood to carpet but have one reservation in relation to accessing gas/water pipes or wiring under an existing wooden floor. If services need to be accessed after an expensive interlocking wood floor is laid then the damage may be difficult to repair neatly. I'm about to extend the wooden floor (maple floating floor) we have in the hall through to the kitchen but will inspect and replace if necessary any of the gas/water/wiring that runs under the existing original floorboards.Awaiting a new sig0

I'm old enough to remember lino in the winter so wouldn't have laminate flooring. Real wood is lovely though." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
