  • At last a decent thread on this forum. Anyone with the balls to join the army and defend our coutry has my total respect.

Just wish the government would stop wasting money on cr*p and give the armed forces a decent and well deserved very large pay rise.

    Too right.

We are worth every penny as well.
  • In answer to the initial thread and to some of the subsequent responses.

I attended a brief yesterday by the Adjutant General himself and Director General (Personnel) and I can confirm that the Army is very nearly full. However, people are always leaving and thus we always need people to join. What is occuring is that recruitment into the Infantry has been reduced this year in order to save money within this financial year. This may sound strange but most infantry courses are under 1 year and reductions in intake this year make real time savings of the budget for the current financial year. The bottom line is that if you want to join the infantry this year you better be good and score well at the Army assessment centres. Those with weak passes, e.g. not quite fit enough, are unlikely to gain a place this year.

All however is not lost. If you are keen to join the Army why join consider joining into one of the undermanned trades? These attract golden hellos of up to £1500, almost guaranteed entry if you meet the joining standard, short waiting time for join up date, get a specialist trade, etc, etc. I personally would make a strong plug to join the Royal Engineers and they have current vacenies in Resources Specialist and Geographic Technician. You still get to be a combat engineer and blow stuff up, run round in the woods doing infantry stuff but you also get a very good trade background that will set you up for when the economy recovers and you head off back to civvi street.

On a final word, to anyone considering joining, good luck and prepare well.

I think they should increase the max age for the services. I'm sure there are plenty of good/bored/needing adventure type people in their 40s/50s who would like a change.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

They are full with the ages they recruit now, why would theywant to open it up to older people? If they want adventure, they could always join the Army Cadets as an instructor.

thats the message im getting! I've got my date though 26th September:p

And who ever said it, was right. The careers office tell you bits and bobs of what they want you to know. Recruiting stratagy? I don't know.

I applied last may, due to a silly back injury ( was never injured in actual fact but what docs says must go hey!) had to wait 6 months and keep a diary of an excerize regime for 3 months. So in total i will have been waiting 16 months by the time i go down to bassingborne and im doing one of them trades no one else wants to do either! C3 Systems with the RE! Roll on september:)
