Well that's true I must admit.

Thing is I wouldnt mind losing my apps and and stuff.. its just my itunes data i'd be gutted about I suppose it doesnt matter THAT much.. after all i can save my playlists... ah well

Other option.. is it worth formatting a partition with data on but no OS if its perfectly fine? Will it speed things up in the long run when installing a new OS if i start again?

you can just save your itunes info off and copy it back again, i did when i reformatted recently. worked well ratings, playlists, counts all there.
