Cheap internet access any recomendations?

Ive just got my mother in law a nice new computer and set it up and all we are getting is connect to the internet to activate so now im looking for the cheapest possible running cost for her to get online as a monthly broadband cost just cant be justified as she would be lucky to be online once a month unless the kids want on. She has no modem so the cost of that would come into things and she has a bt line. She remembers seeing a package a few months ago for £25 for the year dial up but cant remember where or with who so its this kind of package or payg if possible.

Does anyone know if there is anything available as a low cost option please;)

You can get a dial-up modem for less than £10 (maplins)
https://www.fast4.net is £4-99 a month and you can use it anytime as much as you like with no extra cost.
PAYG is charge at local rate by the minute,so at the weekend it`ll be 1p a minute on your BT bill.

The other option is to go for the Namesco £64.50 for a year's 512K Broadband.

    See http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=187170 for more details.

I signed up a couple of weeks ago (from a £5 a month unlimited dialup) and have been very impressed so far.

I second Timbod's idea, however do remember that the £60 only covers ONE YEAR's "free" ADSL, and you'll need to remember to cancel it giving the appropriate notice coming up to the 12 months otherwise £10.95/m kicks in. Have recommended this to a friend who's been coping with dial-up at their part-week apartment, though not yet activated, he's only just signed up.

Does anyone know how the talk talk package works? It looks free as long as you take one of there packages.

There seem to be lot of problems with Talk Talk as reported by the users over here. It takes a lot of time. But on the other hand there are some who are pretty happy. But I think overall the picture for talk talk at the moment is not very bright.
As too many customers have signed up and the company cannot deal with so many applications.
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

If we are really talking about connecting that infrequently, surely some kind of pay as you do dial-up is going to be cheapest.
I think the package she may have been thinking about is https://www.fireflyuk.net where you prepay £25 which buy you 60 hours of internet access to use as you wish, covering 60 hours on a freephone number. This works out at 0.7p/min and may be more cost effective that fast4. It used to have no expirary but I may be wrong but I seem to remember that this has now changed but I cannot see any details on their website.

The TalkTalk package is adding a good £10 a month on to line rental costs, and depending on how much the phone line is used, USWITCH does show that line rental can start at £8.99 per month. It all depends on how much the phone line is used for calls.
