in Motoring
Hi
I know this is not strictly motoring but thought someone may have some advice for me? I was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding getting hold of the council re potholes. My husband cycles to work in Cambridge and the cycle lanes are dreadful, last Monday he could not avoid one of the larger potholes in the cycle lane and came off his bike. Because of this he has broken bones in his hand and has had to have surgery which will result in time off work. This pot hole is huge and really dangerous but I am unsure how to go about complaining.
Thanks in advance

It's something to take up with the local council. We have done this for a few customers who have buckled/damaged wheels on their car in potholes, and they have successfully claimed money back for new wheels/tyres, but not sure how it would work for broken bones!?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0

This doesn't help your husband's hand, I'm afraid, but to get potholes repaired it may be worth reporting them using http://www.fillthathole.org.uk/. It's run by the CTC but can be used by both cyclists and motorists as the report gives an option to indicate whether the hole was discovered when cycling or driving.
I've reported a couple of potholes using it and the holes have been filled within a few days afterwards (although it may have been coincidence that they were going to fill them anyway) so in my experience it does seem to work, but I don't know whether all councils react as quickly to the reports or not.
However, as he has actually suffered an injury as a result of one, I would actually suggest you contact whichever council is responsible direct (probably your County County) to enter a complaint. No trees were killed to send this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced. - Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson)0 -

..followed by a phone call to one of the many ambulance chasing solicitors to put in a claim for damages.0
