I've just come in on this thread and not read all of it except the last few pages. Why is it necessary to throw personal insults at people, we are all individuals who are entitled to our opinions but why make it personal? I don't know if its different in Scotland to England but i am in a profession (social work) that is allowed to take her children out of school for a holiday within term time (within reason) as the school holidays are extremly busy for me at work and i am not always able to take my holidays then. I have taken my children out of school on the odd occasion, my son left school with all his exams and qualifications and my daughter has just passed all her 3rd year exams so it doesn't seem to be affecting them. I appreciate people who don't have children don't want to be listening to kids screaming round about them neither do i when i go on holiday with my pal its nice to have a break much as i love my kids dearly! The flip side to that is why should we as parents see all the travel companies bump their prices right up for the duration of the school holidays. As a family we often fly from Manchester during school holidays as our holidays are different to those in England and we can save up to £300 at a time. As far a holiday of a lifetime i wouldn't hesitate to take my kids out of school i did for Florida as i wouldn't pay the prices to go there in the rainy season. So please consider both sides of the discussion before personal insults are thrown.0

I think they do that when they say something and someone asks for them to back up their 'something' and because there are no facts, they feel like they have to tell those that are asking for some evidence 'morons' et al.
If it helps them feel better about themselves, then what the heck?0 -

i do not love to pick on anyone.
i find it strange that you believe that posting comments calling people chavs etc is acceptable. when people call on you to back up your claims you reply with abuse such as pratts and morons and you believe you are the one who is being picked on.
we are not being lazy by not looking for these so called links that you have to back up your case, we are merely asking you to provide them as they seem pretty elusive0 -

Because you're all lazy to look!
Anthony - it's not about being too lazy. It was you that posted about people being put into prison for non-attendance for a fortnight's holiday. If I say something then as a mature adult, I'll expect to back up my statement if challenged.
I would not call people morons or divvies because they can't find a link - it infers that it doesn't exist.
So, either post a link [if it's that easy to find, it shouldn't take you long, just highlight the web page address and copy and paste it into your post] and then we will all read and you will be vindicated.

Look at this from east riding council and you will find there is very little grounds that you can go on holiday in termtime, except certain circumstances(and even then you have to prove it with damn good evidence and reasons for it!), otherwise their answer is NO.0
