Item hasn't been delivered yet?

After I sent the message to the buyer I regretted it just in case they decided to get the item for free by saying it wasn't delivered and getting a refund. Lets just hope I don't get my first bad experience with ebay.
As I mentioned earlier 99% of buyer are honest, otherwise I wouldn't be selling. So hopefully you shouldn't have any problems0 -
OP, did you really need to use recorded delivery? There's a reason why amazon/hmv/play/whsmith never use anything but standard post for everything over £40- as a buyer I have to wait in all day until 2/3PM for something which could easily be shoved through the letterbox. If I go out, I'll have to drive 2 miles on a Saturday to the delivery office before 10AM when I could be be having a lie in. Oh and I'm in Liverpool, in the countryside you could be miles away from the nearest delivery office.0

I do it because I read that paypal and ebay don't accept a receipt for standard delivery, only recorded deliveries, so if an item didn't arrive in their eyes I wouldnt have any evidence of having sent the item.0 -

Unfortunately as you have found out recorded does not get you the proof you need, so your 74p was a waste of your money. Also it is proof of delivery you need for paypal (which you don't have) not proof of posting.
There are very few rogue buyers on ebay and if you are going to pay out 74p to protect yourself against a tiny majority you will never make any money. I send an average of 120 items a month, that would cost me £88.80 extra if i used recorded. I'd have to lose a huge amount of stuff to cover £88.
All standard mail, and that includes recorded covers loss up to £41 .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. No you only need that when a buyer claims INR which is less than 2% of the time for most sellers. You should then claim off RM with a COP which provides the same insurance as recorded delivery. Very occassionally you may lose money, but this is less than the money spent on recorded delivery. It's like where I work (Sainsburys), we have kids stealing packets of sweets/cans of pop. We could put security tags on them so we wouldn't have as many losses but the cost of implementing this would be greater than the losses themselves. Or we could ban them from the shop, but we'd still lose money as the kids that wanted to buy stuff wouldn't be able to.0 -
Actually my losses are nowhere near 2%, probably aorund 1 in every 1000 items sent at the moment.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Exactly, there's even less of an incentive to use RD.0 -

If they haven't got the information on the tracking. Why do you think putting that number into a RM computer will give a different answer?
I bow to your expansive knowledge of ebay, but in my experience I have had the same situation as the OP and called Royal Mail and they confirmed that delivery had taken place and also sent me a copy of the screenshot on their system in the post. The online system continually displayed "in progress" and never showed the item had been delivered.
So that is why I thought it may be a useful thing to suggest. I'm sorry if you feel that it is the wrong advice.0
