O2 Network Going Downhill

I have been a customer of o2 since last 8 years.

Is it me or does is feel like the network is really starting to lose the plot and taking the !!!! with it's customers.

I'll give u a few example off changes that o2 has made in last couple of years that have been to the customers DISADVANTAGE:

* removing 0845/0870 no's from ur inclusive allowance
* not giving any decent retention deals (giving loyal customers same deals as new customers)
* removing the ability to use ur SMS allowance for MMS
* and now putting a 500MB cap on our data allowance

It just seems to me we are paying alot more and getting alot less in return than we used to.

  • We go, once again, back to "supply and demand".

    All telecoms companies are there to make money. They have shareholders who have invested their funds in the company and expect to see a return, so they have to make a profit. In order to do this, they have to attract customers.

    Firms carry out extensive market research to come up with something that "sounds great but costs very little". Let's use the "0845/0870" as an example. Here's a suggestion of one of the things that could have caused the removal of this offer:

    There were relatively few numbers using 0845 and 0870 at the time (compared to now) and the costs could be agreed with BT on how much each call from a mobile would be. Then we got 0844, 0871, 0330, Virgin, Sky, Talk Talk and all the other variables. Not only would it be hugely expensive to set up agreements with the firms, but the added cost of administering new numbers as they were added to the local and national calling rate would have been too intensive. As a result, the offer goes out the window as it's no longer a "cheap" offer for the firm.

    Once the "cost" of losing customers outweighs the expense of continuing the offer, they withdraw it - it's back to the supply and demand above - it costs too much to supply, so we reduce demand by increasing cost or removing the supply completely. O2 seem to be market leaders in this area, allowing the other firms to follow in their footsteps and I think that's what's happening with Data and MMS. Don't be surprised if unlimited data disappears completely.
