Looking at the details of the new O2 tarrifs for iphone and feeling a bit, well.....shafted TBH!!
Current tarrif is iphone 3G 600 mins 500 txt wifi and unlimited internet for £35/month.
Apparently my "unlimited" internet was a promotional thing and will be withdrawn in October what ever.....
THe new iphone tarrif at £35/month will get only 300 mins though unlimited txts, wifi and 500mb internet.
So half the number of minutes:mad:
A rather empty "unlimited" txts- totally useless to me as I have the "O2 family bolt on" and txts are either covered by this, or I use "what's app" message appt for free messages to my iphone using mates.
Also, some while ago O2 withdrew the deal that I have at the moment- picture messages at a "cost" of 4 txts from bundles, and the same for txts from abroad.
Wifi- yeeeesss BUT only on certain hotspots- I have been quite frustrated (esp on trains etc) to find Wifi is not O2 owned therefore not free.
And exactly how far will 500mb internet go? I don't mean in small demand suff like many million simple pages viewed but say using google maps to navigate etc

Nothing will change with your contract if you don't upgrade - you can continue paying for exactly what you're getting now.
If you do decide to upgrade though:
500mb internet is fine for most people really - and it's unlimited until October. I'm guessing when people first get their new iPhone there'll be much higher usage than usual downloading apps etc. for a few months.
Also if you go on a 24 month contract instead of 18 months then you get the 600 minutes as before.
You should also assess whether it's still worth paying extra for the family bolt on - could save £7.50/month there.0 -

I know nothing will change it I don't upgrade, but I'll be paying over the odds for a tarrif... and certainly I don't want a 24 month tie in...THe family bolt on is worth it as, for a start, it means DH pays £5 less on his monthly simplicity SIM than he did and the 3 kids have all their use within the family covered (several calls/txts a day each)0 -

Yeah I have a Vodafone Family bolt on for £5/month and it's definitely worth it.
If you think about it, 24 months isn't much more than 18, and as new phones are released on a yearly basis, it fits in better when it comes to upgrades. O2 make all their 24 month contracts £5/month cheaper than their 18 month ones and when you work out how much you're paying for the extra 6 months, it makes it worth it in most cases:
£40/month for 18 months: total cost £720
£35/month for 24 months: total cost £840
Difference = 840 - 720 = £120 = £20/month for 6 months.
O2 Simplicity for iPhone = £25/month for the same tariff.
So you actually save £5/month for 6 months over the 24 month term = £30 saving.
Though I suppose £30 isn't really very much, it shows that 24 month contracts aren't awful, and they're probably better for cash flow because £5/month less comes out of your account.
Anyway that's just my opinion.0 -
Before you get all frustrated about the new data limits, think about how much you actually use. You can check on your iPhone by going to Settings > General > Usage0
