do you buy online? If so, how much do you pay for fitment locally?
or do you buy from a dealer who fits [tyres!]No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
Neither does my driving style have a problem with other road users.....I don't get caught out..[anymore.....]........and my driver 'attitude' ensures I wont in the future.
Sounds arrogant, doesn't it?
I've been sparkying for more years than I care to remember, and as such am aware of just about all of the pitfalls that come with the job.
However if I were to claim that my knowledge will prevent me from getting a shock in the future, we both know that would be complete & utter bull as you simply cannot reliably predict what someone else will do.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -

but even in your trade, you take sufficient precautions so as to minimise the risk...[or, with regard to driving, bring it within acceptable levels.]......if you do get a shock, it's going to occur because you have failed to do something previously....something you know you should have done, but for some reason didn't?
Or..maybe you accept the likelihood of a shock because you chose to take chances?
so ''delusional'' isn't anywhere like the right description........No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0 -
I got these this week 2 x nexen cp341 £40 each including fitting, tyre disposal, valve, balance at a local company0

Your attitude stinks. You seem to think your driving is so good therefore you are invincible and can skimp on safety critical equipment. The unexpected can and does happen. For example, large vehicles can penetrate the central barrier on the motorway encroaching on the the opposite carriage way - I have seen this first hand. These sort of incidents can happen to anyone no matter how good their driving is.0 -

I have never tried buying online, I ring around about half a dozen local tyre companies specifying the Vredestein tyre I'm after and get them price matched and fitted locally, usually by King David Tyres who always come up with the goods, been using them for years and have always proved to be great to deal with.Psychosomatic addict, insane.0 -
I agree with Scouselander, i've driven HGV's full time for some 35 years covering millions of miles and i haven't had a bump for over 30 of them (years not miles..;).
However i've been lucky (so far), there's been occasions that a bump should have resulted and i've made loads of mistakes and i've managed to avoid and counter countless mistakes by others that might well have resulted in deaths or serious injury.
The reason i've got away with it so far is not my skill or lack of it, i've had a good helping of luck along the way...coupled with good maintenance, care and spending where appropriate to assist in that good fortune.
Alistair you really need to take stock.
Spending £100 more for a set of decent tyres instead of risking a set of Chinese ditchfinders is common sense.0 -
I buy part worns for my car, just got 2 pirellis (195-60-15) yesterday for £15.00 each including fitting and balance, they are like new, and I had a choice of any tires I wanted. When I was a taxi driver that was all I used and had no accidents at all, I don't find the logic of spending a fortune on tyres, I can get brand new tyres on the above size for £29 each, look around for deals the smaller tyre fitters in most towns offer the best deals!Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
There was a good article in Autocar a few months back where they compared branded tyres against some cheaper makes, unfortunately I cant find a link to the full story but a summary is here:
http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/AllCars/237396/
The most interesting bitThe Linglong tyre performed worst, and was still travelling at 27.8mph at the point when the Continental-equipped Golf had stopped.
Its also worth remembering that Continental tyres often don't stack up that well against other premium brands so the difference could have been even greater vs other "expensive" tyres.0
