Its thats time of year....

i need 2 new front tyres.

Local a garage said they can supply me tyres at £38 for a mid range, but wont tell me brand till time of fitting dep on their stocks.

Kwick fit have decent online prices, but i notice they dont sell their own brand now. Are Marangoni agood brand?

Tried black circles and tyre shopper and they are about the same as Kwik fit online prices to be honest.

Another local garage said he can do Hanooks for abt £44. Are Hanooks a good make?

Last time i got Dunlops but they seem to wear out quick.

Might help if you say what car you have, what your driving style is, and the sort of terrain you encounter on a daily basis.

I've used Hankooks in the past and found 'em to be a good all-round tyre.

More expensive tyres tend to wear out quicker because of the materials used to make the compound. More expensive tyres can also stop 20 feet quicker than cheap tyres.

Hankooks are just average really I wouldn't change them if they were on my car but I probably would spend a bit more it would depend on the size. Avoid any own brand and certainly avoid Wanlis.

On a cheaper size I would be more inclined to spend a little extra on a very good tyre. If you have expensive wheel sizes then the mid range stuff like Hankook and Kumho makes a lot more sense.

That still doesn't tell us what car you have, or what your driving style is.

    Are avons are good brand?

I was going to go for Dunlop Fast Response, as this is what i have already. But my last pair changed in Sept 08 have only done 20k miles and already worn down.

My mechanic has recommended a very small independant garage who give very good prices e.g Firestones £52; Pirelli £57 & tracking for £10.
But now my local Kwik fit said they will match any local price in the area!
I am tempted by the Firestones for £52, but really i want the best for wet handling, as i hardly ever see our roads dry!

Try your local tyre depot rather than a national one.

You may be surprised by the prices!

Wet handling a priority then you could go far worse than Vredestein Sportrac3, always in the top 3 on tests for wet grip.
Consider upgrading to Vredestein Quatrac3, snowflake marked all season tyre so will cope with winter well too.

You'll find them on Camskills at excellent prices, get them sent and get your friendly fitter to put them on unless he can price match.
