O2 scraps unlimited data for smartphones

I have just read this on yahoo news (see link at the bottom)

I have a simplicity deal (12 month) with unlimited internet. The only reason i took it out was for the internet. What are my rights when this comes into play? i agreed to unlimited and now they decided to change the terms and cap it at 500mb which i fear i go over because that is not much for data hungry iphones :(

From reading the article seems it only applies to new customers or if you change your contract.

REading betweeb the lines it seems the "unlimited" internet was only a "promotional deal" and will be withdrawn 1/10/10 on all tarriffs:mad: (which I assume will incl my current iphone 3g one).

Dig out the terms and conditions you agreed to at the start and see what it says.

Do people not bother reading all the other threads relating to this topic lol.

This change does not affect any existing contracts, just new contracts or upgrades from 24th June.

Another network? Don't people realise this cap is gonna be network wide. Wait till all the other networks show their cards and then we'll see if O2 should be ditched on mass.

To be honest though the more people that leave O2 the better, will make the network even better for those that stay! Good times +1 :D

I agree djrobmac. Also, a lot of providers that offer "unlimited" still have a fair usage cap anyway, Vodafone's is 500Mb and T-Mobile's is 1Gb. At least O2 are being up front about what you can use.

Vodafone's iPhone tariffs (currently) are 1gb too, not 500mb.

    From o2's own press release:
Existing customers will continue under their present terms, unlimited data usage with an Excessive Use Policy.

If you don't upgrade or change tariff, you'll keep your unlimited data.
