If your ultimate employer is the Government in one of its many forms then you are employed in the public sector. Otherwise you're in the private sector.

Private sector (and my current bank didn't take a penny from it's home Government).
I have never worked for the Government or a Nationalised company. The closest I have come is working for a Uni which was a privately owned company working out of a state owned University.
During my period of unemployment I tried applying for a job with the Equal Opportunities people over here. They only accept applications from Australian citizens!
I think that also applies if you work for British Aerospace in Australia - you have to be an aussie citizen.US housing: it's not a bubble
