Actually...I have always wanted to ask TWH what he does...whether self employed or employed....obviously, we all know he doesn't work for the council.:rotfl:

Both at different times : public sector, lousy pay compared to industry but good benefits (skilled job). Had dreadful problems retaining staff - contractors at those high industry pay rates were the solution.
Private sector - lousy pay, lousy benefits (semi skilled job)0 -
Private for me from 1988 onwards.
Wife has been in public sector since approx same time. Frequently works from home in the evening, more stressful job and certainly works harder than me.
That's women for you though !
She's currently having to plan various brutal cost cutting scenarios.
Nice pension though, even though I have pretty reasonable pension provision accrued so far, hers is probably twice as good (if not more).US housing: it's not a bubble
