ASDA ~ Do I have a chance?

Basically my Mum purchased a 32" Panache LCD TV from Asda 18 months ago, and it's developed a fault on the screen (a thin red line running straight down the centre of the screen).
I phoned the branch, and then Head Office who told me unfortunately there is nothing they can do as it is outside it's 12 month warranty.
Firstly my Mum is a pensioner who is disabled and is losing her sight (hence the 32" screen) and she thought that this tv would see her out. Now after 18 months and £266.50 (Cheap as it was VAT free weekend) she is told that there is nothing they can do unless she pays for an engineer to write a report stating that the fault was there all along and was only time before it showed up.
Again, I will throw in the pensioner point. She couldn't afford at the time to also take out an extended warranty, and neither can she afford to have a report made. So here she is, stuck with a tv that is likely to get worse.
So, I'm looking for some answers that may mean she has some sort of recourse that she can take up with Asda.
Many thanks for reading, and ahead of any assistance Cheers!!

To be honest I wouldn't keep flogging the word "pensioner" over and over, this makes no difference to the situation.
A pensioner has no more or less consumer rights than anyone else.

A few further points to consider
£266 for a 32" tv 18 months ago isnt event bargain basement. It is ridicolously cheap and the SOGA will recognise this.
A refund could be part refund and say they base it on a 3-5 year life she is likely to get less than £200 refund and thats if she meets her SOGA burden.0 -
As above they are correct, under the sale of goods act, it is now your responsibility to prove the fault was inherent with an engineers report.
I still fail to see the relevance of her being a pensioner or disabled makes so dont use it as it makes your claim look so unsubstantiated that you have to use that. It has no relevance.
Get the report, if in your favour get them to remedy the issue and refund the report cost.
Buy cheap, buy twice comes to mind.Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

well a cheap tv like that id give 3 years absolute max, 2.5 years more likely, making for a partial refund of £100ishBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Sadly I have to stand there and take it and smile when pensioners try and use chip and pin by shoving their cards in too early, moaning when they have to choose a button on our petrol pumps or when we were cash only in our kiosk and they wanted to pay by card.
Who'd be me
It would be so much easier if they were all put down at 60 so you didnt have them cluttering up your kiosk!0 -

We all have hardships. Some, believe it or not, worse than yours.0
