Are the bearings inside the discs on this car(I had a quick look on ebay and they don't look like it)?If they are and reused the old bearing without fitting it properly it could cause problems but if the bearing is inside the hub I don't see how anything to do with the discs could affect it.They lasted 34k miles...thats good.Thats around 30 years commuting for me.

The rev problem should have been addressed though.I personally don't think its dangerous(we have clutches/brakes) but you shouldn't have to put up with it and its poor service if they ignored it.

thank you if you have made it to the end.

I didn't, an essay this long makes it difficult to see what it is you want and what the main complaint is. There are bits complaining about work being done you don't think should have been, bits about you being charged for work that you don't think you should pay for, other bits complaining about the reliability and build quality, other bits complaining about the attitude of the dealer, other bits complaining about how far from the dealer you live. Irrelevant details like you being lent a courtesy car again obscures your point. You need to be clear to Skoda what the main complaint is and what you expect them to do about it. You seem to have accepted that the costs are reasonable yet you've left in all the cost details and your complaints about them.

It's far better to be succinct and maybe including some of the detail as a separate attachment
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

OP - I'd been inclined to remove some personal details from your post - such as Regisration, your location 'oop North, etc - you can't be too careful on a public forum and is not relevant to the advice you want.

Skoda and bearings are a well-known problem. They wear out very quickly but should be replaced under warranty under normal circumstances (I've had two Skodas in the past and had bearing issues with both of them, an Octavia VRs and a Superb - both with undre 35k mileage).

You might want to visit and register (for free) at this forum :-

    www.briskoda.net

It has a very active forum and you're bound to get some feedback on your experiences and maybe comments about your particular dealer as well.

Suggest you also stop using this dealership. They're all franchises and some are better than others - I find they get worse if they have no competition locally (as where else are you going to go?). I dont' find the service costs that excessive, the £200-£250 mark for a dealer service is about right but the dealer should be working a lot harder to keep you happy then they appear to be.

But it does sound like you've had a particularly bad time with this car and garage.

...and sorry to end on a negative/criticsm but your letter is not very well written. It is too long and rambling (why would anyone care about snow delaying your visit to the dealer?). I find when writing letters of complaint you need to keep them to the point with sufficient detail to make your case but importantly, you must end with what you want them to do. Asking them to call you in 7 days isn't a solution is it?. A new car/compensation or the problems fixed is what you're after so thats what you ask for otherwise you give them opportunity to wriggle out (ie, they'll call you within 7 days, say hello to you/fob off, job done, complaint closed). But they cannot ignore a specific requst for X or Y and that is what you can then attack them on later.

I have read your complaint and like anyone else fell asleep.
Most of your points are invalid as normal wear and tear for the car or covered under warranty. Your main complain in my view is poor service from the dealer and nothing to do with the cars quality.

Some cars might go 5 years without needing repairs; but others may well need them more regular; if you think your history is bad then lets hope you never buy a true lemon.

Also to add if you didnt like travelling 35 miles for services etc then you should have done your research in advance.

    It is 3k revs not 30k revs :). K means 1000 not 10000.

I read it and thought so what. The only complaint I can see is the dealer should not have ignored the reving problem. Victor Meldrew comes to mind.

It sounds like the OP was expecting the car to be perfect, no car ever is perfect. Its done 40k and has needed:-

    1) New pads and discs - normal on modern cars
    2) Servicing inc brake fluid normal
    3) New pedal and throttle body - not normal but it was sorted under warranty BUT I do agree with the OP this should have been fixed earlier. It would not have done your engine or fuel consumption much good.
    4) Bearings - Unlucky but it does happen.

Personaly if it was my car I would not have thought anything was wrong with it apart from the reving problem. I think that is your complaint but I am not sure what your goal is.

Your letter needs to be a lot more specific in regarding your goal :o

I hope that helps, don't mean to sound negative just trying to put things into perspective.

PS I am sure Yorkshire has a lot of Skoda dealers so not sure why you're driving all the way to that.

I just bought a brand new car from Birmimgham and I live in Manchester, I won't be driving to Birmingham every time it needs a service :).

Complaining about taking a car on a 67 mile round trip for servicing/repairs isn't valid - you're bound to have a Skoda main dealer closer.

Brake pads at 34,000 miles is hardly premature if the vehicle is used in a variety of driving conditions (ie, it doesn't spend all day every day on a motorway)

Wheel bearings fair enough are a concern. The rev counter thing confuses me - does the engine actually rev itself or are the clocks faulty?
  • Taking a car on a 67 mile journey to a garage you don't trust is just stupid. If you aren't happy with either the service or the location, or both, why not use Simpsons Skoda in Colne, barely 16 miles away?

    Hello everyone that has responsed.

As you can see from my 30k/3k revves, I am not a mechanic or posses a deep or basic understanding of vehicles! I am writing to Skoda under the guidance of my FIL who 'understands' (....?) vehicles.

Reason we havent travelled to a nearer dealer was due to warranty work/servicing etc that I have always been told I had to go back to the dealer for.

My letter was long due to making sure Skoda had the full facts. Whether it was inconsequential or not, it was felt at the time that as much detail was needed.

We didnt know what we wanted from them, we just wanted an answer for the problems that we felt there was with the vehicle.

Please accept my apologies for if I have come across as a 'Victor Meldrew' type character. I simply wanted some explanation as to the problems we have had. If, as many have pointed out, they are 'normal' occurances for a modern vehicle, then that is my answer.

No need to apologise, there's a lot of savvy people on this forum who, whilst may not be subtle in their presentation, have valid points to help you for the future.

To maintain your warranty, it is best to use a Skoda dealer, but you don't have to use the dealer you bought the car from. I'm driving a 4x4 at present which I had delivered from a dealer in Bradford down to Worcestershire and I use a local dealer to me for my warranty repairs/recalls.

If they do contact you, perhaps the focus should be on the shoddy/poor service you've had from the dealership as most of the problems have come from that, rather than the car itself.
