United Utilities scare mongering to make even MORE money for free!

This 12 pound a year for your under house "drain piping accident cover" the fact its only that amount shows itll never happen and if you have drain collapse/blockage etc past a certain point infront of your house theyre liable anyway........just trying to drum up more profit, considering they shut off lots of the wirral network of pipes recently and had to pay compo to 1000s of people for having no water or dirty water for 48 hrs etc. Its a great pity due to contamination issues we cant have other providers in competition with them, driving the price down for us like gas/elec.

Wow.....you’re not a happy bunny are you.

You have to cover the cost for anything up to the boundary line of your property and just because something is cheap doesn't mean that it won’t happen..........You can take £250,000 life insurance out for under £20 a month.......I would expect that at some point we will all die.

If you also look the insurance is not from UU but from Homeserve (yes I expect that UU will make a cut from the sale but I would expect this to be in pence and not ££££

Just to add, responsibilty for the water pipe (supply pipe) does indeed only go to the boundary of the property. Your drains (sewer pipes) though are different. You are responsible for these right up to the point of entry to the main sewer. This is unless your house was built pre 1937. Sewers built after 1937 are known as "private sewers" and responsibility for repairs and maintenance up to the point at which the sewer connects

Don't really agree with the Homeserve package, as previously said, this optional insurance is seperate from the water company, the wc just gets some royalty payments for allowing them to put their logo on the leaflets.

Most of the time your house insurance will cover you anyway, if it doesn't then you could ask your insurance to add it for probably less than homeserve are quoting.

I had the three month trial period for this cover with Homeserve when I moved into my current house. Rang to cancel it within the trial period and they immediately offered to drop the monthly premiums by half - it's about £5 per month. Can't argue with that. (Yorkshire Water, not UU though)
