Kitchen stuff, pots pans, cutlery plates etc, i took a little chest of drawers but i have farrrrrrrrrrr too much stuff and still do now, i also took a pc and a tv altho the tv never even got tuned in, i took a stereo as well, but if the uni isnt too far from home he could always add to it anyways and im sure they will nip off to cheapo places like wilkos to pick up anything they may have forgotten etc?Shine on you crazy diamond..............0

If he is in halls he will have al the basics, bedding, desk, maybe a lamp if your lucky.
All he will need to take with him are clothes, laptop/computer, alcohol, some basic foods (shopping on moving in day is going to be HAVOC), cutlery and plates, washing stuff (both washing and washing clothes).
He can get food whilst there as the first day, everyone goes shopping to the local supermarket and it's packed.
Don't get toasters, kettles etc. We ended up with 4 toasters, 2 sandwich makers and 3 kettles in my first year of halls. Oh yeh, and about 5 irons, which never got out the box.0 -

I haven't heard of student accommodation not being furnished with the basics, bed/desk/wardrobe. There should be a uni brochure at least of accommodation.
If you are catered, you just need bedding/pillows. Cutlery and cooking equipment. Coat hangers and a desk lamp are normally needed. Maybe a bin.
June is way to early to get stuff :P weekend before is pushing it.Shine on you crazy diamond..............0 -

I worked as a cleaner of my university's halls of residence through both the summer holidays and the kitchens in the girls' flats were far filthier than those in the boys' presumably because the girls did more cooking.0 -
And on that note
bowl/plate/mug that's distinctively his. Remember from my university days-and from those of my daughters-the endless hassles of unwashed crockery and pans. Doesn't matter what the pattern etc is, just something that is recognisably his.Another useful item is a cover for the bed-anything that can be thrown over when you have friends round so your actual bed clothes stay relatively clean
And make sure that anything you get is cheap0 -

When my son went last year, he assured me he'd have no problems keeping his room and ensuite clean and tidy. I wondered how after 19 years of not managing it at home! - but apparently that was because he had to share with his brothers who were the messy ones not him. Still, he's just moved out into a shared house so I sent him a big list of things to check he'd cleaned and what product to use, then hopefully he'll get his deposit back on his room. It was spotless when he moved in, I know cleaners go in after they've left but still, it'd be nice for them if they didn't have much to do.
Re the equipment, there's a couple of threads further down, with lots of ideas. I started getting stuff for my son early on, buying a couple of bits a week. I thought if he doesn't make it to Uni then it'll do for when one of them moves out. I'd like to think I pretty much thought of everything, I even got a tub of 'Celebrations' for him to break the ice with his new flatmates.
