  • I'm really not sure - although I know we'll manage somehow!
We spent about £30 on a grocery shop today, and we have a few (yes, three!) roasts in the freezer from the Chrostmas hamper we got from the butcher. I'm sure we'll be fine, providing nothing big happens!

Re: Budgets - I've never done a budget before, so I'm learning on the hoof really.
I'm keeping a spending diary, and counting down the money we have with each spend, but next payday I'll have to do things differently I think, although I'm not totally sure how.

Sounds like you may benefit from doing a meal planner and working out the cost of the shopping. May give you peace of mind

hiya from a newbie, just starting down the DMP road, I had our email pack from CCCS back today. We have just over 16k across 2 cards and 2 overdrafts, and have been stuck in the overdraft charge/card interest cycle for too long. It feels really good to be doing something about getting out of it. Will be back with questions at some point I'm sure- this board has been a real help in the past weeks so thank you!! x

Welcome EM. Fingers crossed for a smooth set up. Any questions just shout up. Here's to 2012

Have you any top meal planning tips HH ?! Thats something I am rubbish at. I have good intentions then it goes horribly wrong ! Think I have lots of horror stories from my childhood - Mon fish and cheese sauce, Tues pork chops and beans, Wed Toad in the hole etc etc, and it was the same every single week without fail, well except for Christmas and the invention of the microwave, then my lovely mum got adventurous !!:)

yeah, sounds like our house lol

Sunday roast, Monday cold cuts and jacket pot, Tuesday mince pie...etc.
All lovely but you could set your clock by them lol

We do have a meal plan usually for the week and buy the necessary stuff, although that's more because of diet than money although the one could help the other I suppose.

I know what you mean, if I took something out the freezer I would go off the idea before it defrosted! You don't have the security of a CC to fall back on now guys. Even if you dont want to do the mon this tues that route if you plan so many meals per month etc and cost up. The old style boards are great for tips of managing a family of 20 on £3.12 a week. Joking apart, some very good advice on there.

I use my slow cooker loads. The freezer is a great pal too. Batch cooking saves time and money. Herbs and spices off ebay rather than supermarket. Check price per kg on everything even if said to be on offer. Some staples like beans on toast in for when the money runs out before the month. So called value buy packs in supermarkets can be more expensive than the loose stuff, check it out! All crafty tricks supermarkets use.

    Good luck HHx
  • Yeah, we've having tins of raveloi or macaroni cheese on toast for lunches recently.

Wouldn;t have thought of eBay for food though!

Perhaps I'll have to do a typical grocery shop list somewhere..

  • Hi,

I have never posted before, so I hope I am on the right thread!
I am on a DMP with CCCS and have been for 4 years! I want to try and make some final offers to some of my creditors but do not have the funds to pay all my debts off. What I am unsure about is do I have to go through the CCCS to offer payments or do I write directly to my creditors? How much is a reasonable amount to offer - I want to put the amount of money I have to the most effective use!

Thanking you in advance for any help!

I would go through CCCS to offer any F&F's, they seem to know what they are doing. From my experience, writing to creditors yourself seems to be useless!

Hi everyone, sorry I am only checking in these days, I do read the posts when I can, but am just getting on with it. It seems very slow at times, especially when you have a car accident (in heavy sleet) that blows the no claims out of the water. Hey ho tho, things are moving along, so hopefully by March 2012 we will have paid off £30,000. Only another £38,000 left, thank goodness.
Happy New Year to all, I hope 2012 is good to us all.

    Hi to you!
Just wanted to say to you (and others, who may be 'lurking') the title of this thread is the Debt Management Plan Mutual SUPPORT thread.
We all love to hear good news, and advice is invaluable but when you are having a 'black' moment where else can you go???
I know my time here is done, but in the past I've sometimes needed to sound off when it all got too much, and life chose to kick me when I was already down :(
And on the other foot (!) it's always been a place for a giggle and an escape from 'real life.' :)
If it gets too much don't suffer in silence.
And I'm really chuffed to hear your latest news! :D

    'Twitty'

    Hey Girl!!!

    You are brilliant!:T

And I saved a very special goodbye until last.
To Ian - you've been with me all along, from shaky start to finish. You're always here to help myself and others. Through all the serious stuff there has been fun as well, and I so will miss having a pot shot at you now and again! :D
I know you have plans and hopes of your own - may they come true very soon.
So I hope your lady will forgive me, but I send you a very, big :kisses3:
    Thanks for the good times

    'Twitty'

P.S. And if that errant Tooth Fairy flutters by, please give her my best and tell her 'I'm outta here' now

She knows, and you're free now, missus!!

    Thanks for all the craic,
