rockchick there's no need to say it's for a DMP unless u want to. I think it's pretty irrelevant anyway so long as the account stays in credit :) we set ours up online so no chance to mention it and 2 years later there's never been a problem :)

And welcome, you're in good company here:cool:

Having a productive day...nowt like making money from the company you work for(on top of wages)..don't worry its all above board:p I'm ebaying all the stuff the office doesn't want, MD said I can keep the money(as it was going in the bin anyway) but if I make over £100 I have to take him for a drink..sounds fair to me:D

Just need to psyche myself up to mow the grass when I get home *sigh* ..can't wait til i can afford a gardener:rotfl:

Just off the phoen with the co operative bank ... new account set up .... honest about the reason for setting it up .. they were absolutely fantastic : ) .... and have even offered to switch all my exisiting DD and standing orders .. wow !!!!!! Day 1 of a debt free future has got off to a good start ... hoping the DMP goes as smoothly .... will find out soon .. have some rather persistant creditors .... £15,000 + .... dont ever plan to take out another credit card/loan ever again : S !!!
  • Good luck Rockchick :)

I also was advised by cccs to set up a new bank- also went with co-op after asking on here seemed best one. They offered an overdraft but i turned it down as was worried we would be breaking terms of dmp!

I've been on mine since feb and have similar debts to you, and have only just this month heard back from the last two creditors that they are stopping interest :) so only one out of 11 have been tricky (barclay card- still charging 6%- may write another letter off asking for it to stop ;) )

Confuzzled- Good luck selling that stuff from your office! I hope you get lots for it :D

On the subject of DMPs, I have recently been told by Pay Plan that I would need £150 per month to set up a DMP. This is despite only having about £30 pcm to pay off my creditors! Can this be right.

aremass ... contact CCCS ... they are a free completely impartial charitable organisation ... my partner was on a DMP and he said he only had £60 surplus and they said that was ok .... I too only have approx £60 a month to pay creditors .... £150 is alot ... especially if you have gone through a budget planner .... good luck : )

    Hey RC

Glad that you're having a good day! And getting that new account set up sounds like a great start to your DMP journey. The Co-op basic account is very popular around here, and they do sound very helpful.

To be honest, it's just as well you do have to promise not to take out another credit card/loan when you start a DMP (not that it would be easy to get either anyway once you default) as there have been times when I wanted extra money, but you do learn the difference between what you NEED and what you WANT. It's very simple really and nothing that previous generations didn't do before the easy availability of credit!!! I find it helps to avoid temptation, so for example stay out of your favourite stores where possible if you know you can't just browse, and if you go to the local store for milk, just take enough for milk otherwise you'll end up spending £10 on 'bits and pieces'! Although of course do allow a little fund for treats otherwise you'll never last the distance. (My weakness is Galaxy chocolate and Haribo!).

I've found the advice on here invaluable and yes, people are very friendly on this DMP mutual support thread. I think it's the shared experience thing. Let's face it, we all have different circumstances but ultimately I guess we've all made mistakes with money but we're now facing up to it and chipping away at our debts. It's really also helpful to read other threads and you often find other people asking questions you were wondering about.
Glad you're settling in well!

Well 1yr into my DMP with CCCS and I have just undertaken a review which has seen my payments to my creditors reduce. After a year of quietness on the DMP I undertook the review due to the increase in living costs etc...

Barclaycard have been very supportive as has M & S. Barclaycard initially froze interest for 6 months and then reinstated it at a very low rate, however after the review the payment to Barclayard reduced by about £50 per month so I was expecting them to kick off. they have in actual fact accepted the reduced offer from CCCS and stopped interest again.

I was very worried about undertaken the review as the creditors had been quiet for a year but I had to do it and I am glad I did now as most have accepted. So I guess my message is do what you have to do and sometimes it works to your benefit.
