  • Thanks Red Scorpian. I will try the national debt letter templates. I have a CCCS client reference, so I'll stick that on. I do hope they play ball! Did they stop your interest?

  • Hi Southern Belle, good that you've got a number it really does help .Yes most of my creditors (16 eek!!!)stopped interest almost right away it seemed to be the smaller debts that were a bit stubborn,so I did see a few balances go up but they settled down fairly quickly(about 6months in)when doing your dmp keep copies of the letters you send to them , send recorded delivery, keep your postage receipts beside the letter, keep every letter they send to you, send token payments for a couple of months to give you a wee slush fund that is the only thing I didn't do and wished I had, also leave yourself enough money to live comfortably as your journey will be a bit easier if you're not constantly struggling( less stress the better!) It's hard at the start BUT it is well worth the initial struggle. Take care xx

Hi everyone, just wanted to share with you all! We got our first acceptance letter this morning, from MBNA, and they have frozen interest and waived all charges for a year! I can't believe how quickly CCCS get things going! We do need to send another token payment to each creditor, as first payment to CCCS isn't until 1st august, but I am feeling quite positive today :)

Well done. If its been accepted, send them token payments until you make your first DMP Payment to CCCS.

They review the DMP's on a year by year basis, so unless you default, they will no doubt review and renew your payments next year :) well done:T

  • Finally some good news my end re: the creditors that refused to stop interest at first! I called them up today (mostly catalogues) and they have all stopped interest for the foreseeable future and it will only be added on again if i break the terms of my dmp :T at last a break through!

Between the catalogues (all my smallest debts but combined £1k +) they had added on over £300 worth of charges over the last few months! shocking! I have noticed on closer inspection after my call though that some charges have also been returned so credited back to my account :T

I'm only 3 payments in so think we are doing pretty well....just barclays being the pain in the backside now! And these are our largest debts (£6k+ :() they have sent me letters defaulting me and saying they don't agree to terms of DMP as it wouldn't be paid in a suitable time period blah blah blah..........but i haven't received anything from anyone saying they have bought the debt? SHould i wait it out or should i call barclays, i'm really not sure what to do here?! I have an o/d with them for £4k+ and a loan at £2k+ so this is nearly half our debt and they are being really stubborn and piling on charges? advice anyone?

Good luck bertie! Don't worry if you don't hear from all your creditors either, some of ours, they stopped charges after receiving letter from CCCS but didn't bother telling us. We just noticed on the next statement that came through that all charges and interest was stopped!

If I was you, I would be on the phone. "IF" they still refuse the terms of the DMP, and it does go to court, you can show that you have been as reasonable as possible, and that you have been pro-active. its all about damage limitation, they may be playing hardball and being awkward so you have to be extra nice ... keep logs of all corrispondence and the outcome of any discussions.

We had one issue with Ctit Bank, they refused and treated us like criminals... after a few phone calls and a letter of complaint about their whole attitude, they backed down and accepted the DMP. again, seek the advice of yoru debt councilor, they have the contacts and speak to these companies on a week by week bases... they will beable to mediate / advise if Barclays refuse to work with you.

Just keep stressing that you accept your situation, and are working towards paying back the debt.

    Good Luck

  • Thanks 2spicy! I called them up (my god i hate making calls i was so nervous) AND both people i spoke to were lovely!!! I don't know who i must have rang last time but htey put me off calling ever again! They have finally stopped interest *yey* and charges and offered me f&f (although not much off tbh) but we haven't the money to do that yet...good to know we can though :)

Only one that hasn't completely stopped interest is barclaycard they reduced to 6% for dh from 39+% so still good....but i may get him to make a call and see if we can get it to 0%!

So glad I called now I feel much better knowing my money is going to debts rather than charges & interest every month!
