Just a note to thanks 2Spicy, those words of encouragement actually brought tears - well Ill cry at the drop of a hat these days. Unfortuantley, my oh doesnt know about my debts so Im unable to tell anybody so I just love this site knowing others are going through or even been through and surviving what I am about to start. (Ugh doesnt it sound maudlin - I was 50 last month and have now decided to, instead of worrying about what people think about me, do what I feel is right and as long as there aren't any debtor prisons I will pay back the money I owe as and when I can.

Hi Bertie and Michelle
Hang on in there - waiting to get started is frustrating and you just want to crack on, having made the decision and then, the first couple of months are a bit of a rollercoaster. You've made the decision and have done the right thing - you're trying to manage and put order into what is often a situation that is full of chaos and disorder and this will take a little bit of time.
Also please remember that the likelyhood is that the creditors will make it a little bit difficult and scary for you - they want to keep you on the hamster wheel of debt, going round and round and round and never quite reaching the end. Don't let them! This is your life and you can take control of it. You are behaving responsibly and doing the right thing.
A few months in, sometimes, less, everything settles down and the DMP starts ticking along. We've numerous creditors and we now have every single one on 0% interest and no default charges - but it took a wee while. Also, most were absolutely fine to deal with, a couple of DCAs were a little more persistant but ultimately life is so much better for us, so much less stressful and we're sleeping at night. Have a look at my previous posts if you like (in one I give a run down of a typical conversation with a DCA).
Best of luck to you both.0 -
Thanks guys. It is a rollercoaster, and also having to live on a budget when there is no cc or overdraft to fall back on is pretty scary, but manageable. 2Spicy, I'm glad you mentioned about using a pet/haircut fund for the little things to make life more bearable, and it means you can still go out with friends without having to tell them about our debt.
Sickasachip - thank you, and I love your signature, 'when the credit finally ran out'!, it was the same for us, we were using our overdraft to pay the minimums and that then ran out!
thanks again, its great to have support xxStarted comping again August 2012!

hi all been a whole since i posted on here
feel a bit down tonight tbh have been slogging away with my dmp for about 8 months setting aside 220 per month and i dont feel i am getting anywere tbh, yes some creditors have been helpful and most have frozen interest and only capital one has still gone to a dca (and that has got me down most tryingto deal with them) but id just like to see me a bit nearer to being debt free tbh
on the dca note does anybody no if westcot are used by capital one? my account was with the loathsome and frankly awful cougar financial servcies but the last two days westcot have called my mobile non stop, i hope its not one of my other creditors it shouldnt be.
I have finally started the ball rolling to try and claim back some over limit charges through this site that even if they are just wiped from the debt will help a little
any help appreciated as ever0 -
I just got my pack through from CCCS.
Has anyone had any experience with Wonga on a DMP (particularly a self-administrative one)? I am just puzzling how to deal with it all.
Many thanks :money:Total Debt: £0 [STRIKE]£33,043[/STRIKE]

Yes, it is, we remember that feeling well. But actually it was always a false safety net. Actually having to live without it, now we're several months in, is fantastic and we feel proud that we're making it without the bloody credit cards, overdrafts etc etc. It's by no means a walk in the park but it's a hell of a lot better than where we'd got ourselves too (and, tbh, if we'd continued somehow by this stage we'd be at the point of no return and looking at bankruptcy).
Try not to worry and talk to others here, the support is invaluable.0 -

Contact the DCA and tell them that what they are doing amounts to harrassment. Send them a written letter (im sure there are templates on here to do that). Tell them that you will take things further if they donot stop immediatly.
You can request that they only contact you in writing.
Personally I have never had any issues with 2 of the DCA's that have purchased my debt.. one keeps calling me offering a settlement (but I donot have a spare £6000)
Were using Payplan and every month I monitor the outward transactions and make a note of the reduction in total debtLBM - Oct - 08 DMP Started - Feb -09

Westcot are fine to deal with on the phone, should you feel the need to speak with them. I presume though that you haven't received any letters from them yet?DMP mutual support thread No: 2430 -
Hi southern belle, I used national debt line for setting up my dmp they have good template letters on their site as for paying my creditors I treated them all the same and paid them using the pro rata basis set up on the national debtline site .Good idea would be to give them a wee call and get a client number from them (unless you have a number from cccs) as it looks better to your creditors that you are seeking third party advice hope this helps xx0
