Hang in there. Once you're up and running on your DMP everything will soon slot into place. I started mine December 2009 and all creditors (18 of them) now frozen or greatly reduced interest. Some of they play a bit hard to get in the first few months but just stay calm and they'll hopefully get the message that you're paying as much as you can. Good luckDeeBee0

Sure that as good money savers we all subscribe to :money:weekly e-mail
Don't know if any one else is on a low income or varied other types of benefit (I get a small amount of working tax credit and those on child tax credit with income below certain level would also qualify) but I have just applied for the free energy saving plug mentioned this week. Easy and straightforward on-line application form, completed in no time at all. Well worth looking at if you think you might qualify.
And hello and welcome to all newbies. Sure you can't wait for your DMP to kick in and your new life to start

Hi there -
I am so chuffed I found this thread as my husband and I contacted CCCS last night and feel so so much better today.
We have been struggling to keep up repayments (but have somehow managed) and whilst sitting down last night to review our budget found the figures did not add up! I am currently on maternity leave:o
We got into most of our debt doing our house up and I had quite a bit when I finished uni. We have gone down to one car, got our food budget right down, freezer full of yellow sticker meat etc etc and our determined to sort this out!
so - filled in all the forms last night and rang them this morning - they were so nice - a DMP almost seems to good to be true? I know it affects our credit file but we both have a default and do not want any credit - we have a mortgage - have never missed a payment and have 2 years left on our deal (tracker)
Will it really not affect our mortgage?
Does anyone know what the following creditors are like:
halifax (o draft and cc)
mbna
tesco (RBS)
Barclaycard
our mortgage and current account are also with halifax but I have appied to open a co op basic a/c today
and lastly - (sorry for all this waffling on) my dad lent us some money and we pay him 500 pounds per month for the next two years - how will this be viewed?
thanks again for reading and any possible advice as its all so new to us.0 -

Hope the good news vibes are contagious and everyone has a stroke of luck today

Mint have been really great with us as well, glad to hear your good news!
It seems like I'm always harping on about interest added, etc, and I've realised that I'm probably putting the Newbies off!
For the record, we started with about £64k of debt. This quickly rose to £69k, when the Halifax added on interest that we owed at the start of our loan. I don't blame them for this any more, our house was falling down round us, and we needed some money to keep up with c/c bills!
Of our 12 creditors, only 2 now charge us 'reduced' interest (both RBS) I have queried one and will await an outcome before an attack in to the other.
Since Oct 09 we have paid off more than £10k of our debt. It's been very hard at times, but all that debt was scary. I know no one will feel that sorry, when I say that when we paid the debt (more or less) off over the years, we just built it up again, and more.
This time it's real. There's nowhere to hide. But when you think of paying the 'drone' minimum repayment every month, you could actually have to pay them from 'beyond the grave'. I've heard of this happening to people. But not to us!

Hello Tallulah (and OH) and welcome! We have dealt with MBNA (OH old personal loan) and they were OK. Couple of phone calls early weeks, then everything settled down and all is well now.
Sorry I can't help with questions about your mortgage and paying your Dad back, but someone will be along soon!
Take care,

powerchimp wrote: »Good to hear that people's DMP are getting set; I don't think I can get mine in place for the 1st of August
getting new bank a/c is taking longer that expected
and boss going on holidays in a week, so no chance of getting wages paid in for a few weeks.
It's all rather depressing, I can see where I need to go but just can't reach it yet.
Looks like another month of tokens; roll on 1st September
PS can I have a number too :-)
That's not a bad thing, Powerchimp. We ran headlong into our DMP with some of the payments not even due when we sent token payments.
On reflection, perhaps we should have waited until Nov 09 before beginning. It was a lousy Xmas for us, even though my parents gave us money. It's difficult to reign in the enthusiasm to get things up and running, but maybe it's for the best?
Keep a bit in case, like in the last few months we have had, a new washing machine, repairs to cars, now my tumble dryer has given up the ghost during the wettest week, ever. It never ends!

OMG! here I am chatting to everyone when just a few weeks ago I was saying Sorry to all for going AWOL and not helping the Newbies.
Hope I haven't taken over the Forum, but I'm er, 'helping' I hope!

Welcome!
I think there is a section on CCCS debt remedy tool to add in money owed to family and friends. If not please do call CCCS to discuss. Alternatively you could post a question on the ask a CCCS rep thread.
I hope set up goes smoothly for you

It means rather than paying contractual amount I sent £10 token postal orders to each creditor for the month before my dmp was in place. In some ways I wish I had done this for 2 or 3 months so I could have stored an emergency fund up.
