I don't like to shy away from the fact that I'm lucky that I have my DMP, and in many ways appreciate my creditors for being understanding. This can change at any time, along with mortgage interest rates, lost jobs etc. A DMP isn't a get out clause of debt, and I think we should all remember that.

I have already wrote to the Chancellor about the way the Banking Industry treat people on DMPs. Unfortunately his secretary replied and not George himself.

Grantalien my post is reality and unfortunately newcomers need to be aware of this so that they can prepare for what is on the horizon. I do not want to startle people but that is what this forum is about. People will not be scared off about my post if you read newcomers post you will find that they monitor this forum months prior to embarking on a DMP and some of the post that others post about creditors behaviour are daunting to say the least.

If you look at my previous posts you will see I aim to support and inform people on this site.

Sorry if you are upset by it.

    Mikon

I am not upset ;) - but I think the fine line between expected and tangible changes is slightly different to making statements about changes that may or may not happen.

I full appreciate that your comments are extremely helpful and supportive, this one however i found a wee bit "scare-mongerish".

but to be prepared is no bad thing I suppose :)

I agree with you none of us should feel ashamed that we are on a DMP. But we all need to ensure we work with our creditors to honour our debts and ensure we meet our obligation to pay them in full.

  • Hi All,
I just wanted to thank everyone who has posted on this board.
I have spoken to Payplan today and have decided to set up a DMP after struggling for the last 6 months. I owe just under £10, 000 to 5 creditors and due to being quite seriously ill since last August have had to give up full time work. Sadly i have a currently incurable immune defficiency which has meant i have fought meningitis twice, septacaemia, pneumonia and kidney problems in the last 12 months. Struggling to pay debts out of ESA has only added to the stress so i'm hoping i can now pay my debt off a lot more comfortably.
I shall keep visiting the board with updates on my progress and hope i can in turn provide some support to others in the same boat.

Just a quick post just looked at my credit score/ rating (it was good not now) I was looking thorugh and I noticed that some accounts had been settled. Is it worth deleting them off or does it make any difference?

    Thanks all.

    Hello everybody,

I have had my first statement since started Dmp. Never missed a payment before, feeling very ashamed. This thread has been a life saver.

Santander charged 12.00 for late payment and 12.00 for going over credit limit.

I called at 8.00 on the dot ( I think it helps in you call early ) and explained that with payplan 1st payment due 1 march 2001.

They waived both fees and were very nice. I was very humble and kept thanking them.

I also called up barclay card and they agreed to hold my account for 14 days- hopefuly on late payment fee.

Unless my creditors freeze the interest I cant see a way out....

  • update time methinks. well our dmp only started in January and everything has been really quiet?! cant quite believe it! however, we have now got a fly in the ointment:( me and OH have got a debt with HSBC which is an overdraft currently standing at £2,500:eek: which we didnt bother adding on our plan as my parents very kindly offered to pay it for us.

CCCS want us to have a review of our plan already because of this overdraft as my poor parents wont be able to pay it off for another 2 months and CCCS have said that this is not acceptable:mad: why?? why cant it wait, I dont understand.

So I got a letter from CCCS on Saturday which I was not best pleased about as it stated that we have got credit illegally (which is crap cos we have had an overdraft for like over 10 years) and they were gonna cancel our DMP:eek:. have emailed them and like I said, they want to do a review, like, now. So ive got to ring them later on today (sigh), just when things were looking up! Oh well, thats enough moaning from me for now lol.

hope everyone else is doing ok!
LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(
