Latest News!
Well, Payplan got back to me with an update with all my balances - As said previously, my dfd was next month (after 5 years with Payplan), but due to added charges etc, I knew this wasn't true, and was sure it would be for at least another 2-3 years. Well, my dfd is now 14 months away, sooner if we buckle down even more for the next year. And every single debt has the interest frozen, so this date shouldn't change now. Yay!!!! So excited. I said to hubby we should maybe try and pay more, coz i'd rather have a rubbish year, coz then we're even closer to being £700 better off each month!!! Yay!!!
The end is in sight to not having a single debt in our name, and having all that extra cash for the baby fund!DFD February 2012

hi all , just recieved a letter from natwest this morning, in it it says, please pay £233 by the 27/1/11 to bring payments upto date,(i,m currently on a DMP with cccs, for about 6 months now) abviously natwest have got paid everymonth albeit reduced payment like my other creditors, however it says if i fail to pay the £233 (i owe £1430) by the 27th then they will take further action including court action and or pass it on to a debt collection agency and will also recieve a default notice which will stay on for 6 years, is this anything to worry about? ( i know about the default issue) i mean about court etc?
also one more thing i,ve tried the national debt line template about stopping intrest, but they havent got in touch with me its been over 2 months i think, is there any other template i can use and any advice on what to write or add to the template? thanks all0 -
Hi Inamessman
Dont worry about OPUS when they were CITI and I first started my DMP about 6 months ago they refused to accept my DMP and hammered me with interest charges going into the £000's. I wrote to their Chief Exec and the OFT to ask them to stop the astronomical charges. After 2 months they agreed to the DMP plan and have been great since. They also stopped the annoying telephone calls which at one point were totalling 6 a day.
Just continue to pay what you can via your DMP and write to them quoting the following
The Ministry of Justice has been working with the British Bankers' Association (BBA) and the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS). Justice Minister Bridget Prentice said “firms should consider reducing or stopping interest and charges when a customer provides evidences that they are in financial difficulties.”
Also look at section 9 of the lending code which requires lenders to assist customers when in financial hardship.
I hope this help you.
hi mikon, just found one of your posts, that similer to my postion with natwest, can i ask what you wrote to opus, did u use a template, also did you add anything to it , i dont suppose you could pm me what u wrote so i have an idea of what to put, abviously remove any info of yours, thanks0 -

Hi Nittygritty, it sounds like one of their random computer generated letters but if you're worried send it on to cccs or give them a ring.Debt free Olympic Contender # 134DMP Mutual Support Thread member # 250DMP March 2010 [STRIKE]£9786 [/STRIKE] now £9900 -

Hi everyone just wanted to post a quick message to say I made my first DMP payment to payplan in November and so far 12 out of 14 creditors have accepted the offers and three months on the letters and calls have stopped and I am finally starting to look forward again!
I couldnt have done it without all of the posts on here which I spent hours wading through before I took the plunge.
So a big thanks and good luck to everyone on a DMP!
I'm in a good mood today

Squirrel29 wrote: »Hi, about to start DMP with Payplan but just in limbo for another week until I can rescue my wages from bank after payday and get into my new 'safe' account. I'd carefully worked out my money for rest of month (if only I'd done this years ago, I wouldn't be in this pickle!). Payplan told me not to make any more min payments to creditors so on the 8th Jan I cancelled my Barclaycard dd that was due on the 10th. I just planned to send token payment. Nationwide assured me it was cancelled but it's gone out. I'd left enough in for my car hp which is being kept out plan, my car insurance and council tax. I've got £40 cash in purse for food/fuel.
As Barclaycard have got £57 more than intended and what was put down for DMP, would it be bad of me to pay my council tax on the Barclaycard? Council tax is £83. I could then pay the £30 odd difference back to Barclaycard? My council tax isn't yet set up as dd, I pay it online each month, hence that being the easier one to put on cc?
Hi and welcome
As you cancelled your dd with Nationwide you are entitled to a FULL refund from Nationwide under the direct debit guarantee. Demand it! It usually only takes a day or two to get back.
Please don't put your council tax on barclaycard. They will a charge you interest and you could get into a lot of trouble for doing it knowing you are about to embark on DMP.
My advise is don't pay council tax. Either catch up next month or have a plan to repay over a number of months or have an extra month of tokens so you can have an emergency fund built up. Most of us that had no or 1 month of token payments said we wish we'd have had one or 2 months or them if we had our time again so we had an emergency fund to fall back on.
Payplan /CCCS /Debtline have good advice for the situation you describe
Good luck
Hope that helps
