umm you may need to re-visit your DMP as after food, DMP pmt and priority bills you should have enough left to "more than just survive" on. If your budget is calculated correctly then you can be creative with the left overs and live a not too bad existence - not much help I am sure but hopefully it will encourage you to re-visit things.

    Hi
To be honest i dont take use budget how my dmp says......i dont put money aside for car tax and hairdressing etc. I just wait until i need it then find the money. Im going to try getting different envelopes for eveything i need to pay that way when my car tax etc is up in 6 months i'll have the money!!
So the £10 a week is whae we have for food and petrol:o
Time to stop wasting money and start saving some!! :T

I think we've all been there!

However that budget is there for you to survive. So either you're not sticking to the budget, or you've got some things that have been unaccounted for.

If the lump sum covered the whole of the DMP then I would pay it off. If it only paid off a % then I would be looking to see what F & F were on offer and possibly paid a % off and stash a %

Thats my advice for what it is worth.
    Thanks for that, what's F&F ?

Full & Final. Offer a percentage of what you owe to the creditor in the hope they'll accept and write the rest of the debt off.
  • I’m looking for a bit DMP advice, we have been thinking about doing a DMP for a long time and have eventually decided we can’t cope without some structure in our finances.

    Alliance and Leicester Loan £5541.95
    HSBC overdraft £627.85
    Capital One c/c £167.74
    Payday Loan £900.00
    Egg c/c £1300.00
    Barclay c/c £550.00

**All of the above have been passed to debt collecting agencies**

    We also pay monthly
    £360.00 Mortgage
    £448.00 Secured Loan
**Neither of these have had any missed payments**

We have the DMP pack from national debtline but were wondering how hard it would be doing it ourselves.

Any advice would be a great help

ps sorry if i've put this in the wrong place i'm new to the forum world

Thankyou all for your wonderful messages of support. I really did have a good snivel and cry when I read them all!
To grantalien and ian - I didn't for one moment think you were 'having a go' or 'being condescending.' Your original posts were sound and correct.
And thankyou londonfraggle. Would probably qualify for a DRO except I have a mortgage, therefore equity in property.
Unfortunately, although my income is not huge, it is still slightly too high to qualify for council tax refund, free prescriptions, dental treatment etc.etc. to ease the burden. (DMP payments don't count when claiming!) so can't look for any help. :(
Normally my DMP just ticks away in the background. I find it really difficult to live on my budget but I just about manage to cope with some canny juggling.
Not sure if it's the after effects of a nasty bug, January blues or what but I was completely overwhelmed by this huge tidal wave of despair. Having nothing to fall back on suddenly seemed so frightening and the future bleak. (Apparently at my age I should be reaping the rewards of a lifetime of work and wondering where next to invest my excess funds :D)
You are all lovely, lovely people. :A
Thanks for your understanding. It's very true that those 'on the outside' can't comprehend how it is for us. You've helped me get through this bad time, and I am so grateful to you all.
And if ever I should have piles of dosh you can all  on me!

  • Twit head, sending you virtual hugs, I've got £25 left for food for the month but fortunately I do have a freezer and cupboards full...if you need anything I'll try and help.

good luck ruby ill let the more experienced help some more

    just keep copies of everything

    an update from me

natwest are now on board which is good

however opus have now got me very worried, received a statement today min payment £330 :(

i have sent two letters recorded one 8 and one 3 weeks ago to which i have had no reply.

    any advice appreciated as ever

    thanks

should mention have made my payments as per dmp plan

    Hi Inamessman

Dont worry about OPUS when they were CITI and I first started my DMP about 6 months ago they refused to accept my DMP and hammered me with interest charges going into the £000's. I wrote to their Chief Exec and the OFT to ask them to stop the astronomical charges. After 2 months they agreed to the DMP plan and have been great since. They also stopped the annoying telephone calls which at one point were totalling 6 a day.

Just continue to pay what you can via your DMP and write to them quoting the following

The Ministry of Justice has been working with the British Bankers' Association (BBA) and the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS). Justice Minister Bridget Prentice said “firms should consider reducing or stopping interest and charges when a customer provides evidences that they are in financial difficulties.”

Also look at section 9 of the lending code which requires lenders to assist customers when in financial hardship.

    I hope this help you.
