Train Ticket fine, very worried :(
Options
Basically, i had insufficient funds to purchase an adult train ticket home, so i did something stupid and decided to buy a child ticket. As i went through the barriers i was stopped by authority and asked to show my ticket.
One thing led to another and i gave a statement, basically telling the truth and admitting my intentions.
I now have recieved a prosecution letter asking for my details, and optionally my side of the story. The problem is that im 18, in full time education, unemployed and simply unable to pay a large fine. I didnt actually board any trains so im not even sure i can be prosecuted?
What is the best thing i can say in my letter to lower the cost of my presumably undecided fine? Are they sympethetic?
Also, how much am i looking at here because i have no idea..

I'd take that option of giving your side of the story. It should go in your favour that you admitted it all, and didn't try to BS your way through straight away. You're well aware that it was a stupid thing to do, however I'd say what you did was marginally better than trying not to pay anything and board the train anyway. I think they knew your intent, so I don't think the fact that you actually didn't board the train will help you.
I really don't know what amount they'll fine you - but state your case, they can't get blood from a stone - just really play on the fact that you know it was stupid, and told the truth straight away, I don't know what to say apart from that, sorry.0 -
