If you work under 16 hours you can still claim HB. I dont know about over 16 hours you would have to go into HB office and they will do a calculation and tell you if your entitled to anything. You will get child benefit and working and child taxcredit when baby is born

We applied for HB as soon as i became unemployed. We weren't eligible as she was as student. But now as she has left uni for a year and me working such low hours(I am looking for more work too) i just assumed that we would be eligible but apparently not according to the advisor in the council.

I realise this is a terrible thing to say, But would i get HB now if i lost my job? Seeing an neither one of us would be working.

They will still take your g/friends grant into consideration. You may get some HB, but I doubt it would make up for the loss of earnings.

She has yes, but i all went to our previous landlord due to rent arrears and various other bills.

But, at the moment, her student funding is still taken into account, whether you've already spent it or not. Your situation will change when her academic year is officially over.

Even if you resign from your part time job, her income (ie student loan, maintenance loan/grant) will still be taken into account and will render you unqualified for hb as well.

And plus you may get your JSA suspended for up to 26 weeks for leaving your job. So really you will probably be even worse off if you left your job to claim JSA. As at least now you are getting wages, you could be without money for up to 26 weeks.

Depending on your gf income, you may qualify for SOME LHA.

That will be why you arent entitled as thats meant to be used to live on for the year. So it will take you over the amount a couple needs to live on per week with your wages and the funding.

But she is no longer a student, the academic year is over. I realise my wage is over what a couple would get on JSA but a non working couple would receive full HB!

It's officially over now, So hopefully we might receive something soon.

No wonder many couple's dont bother working when they have children it seem's so pointless.

It's her FUNDING they are taking into account. That you have chosen to spend it on something other than the roof over your head was your choice. But it is still counted.
