Dog training/wee pads for older dogs

Hi all,
My dog is on medication which is causing her to wee in her sleep. She is on 3 of these tablets per day so the weeing is alot and I'm having to bath her daily too (because her back end is always soaking) which is a pain.
I was going to purchase a diaper garment and the extra pads to go inside for extra absorbency until a friend suggested training pads.
I've searched online and they mostly say for puppies. The largest size I've found is 60cmx60cm which should be big enough, as long as I make sure her back end is on the pad.
I've never seen them in shops but after a google search I read that B&M sell them, 30 for £5 and also Home Bargains 8 pack for £1.50. I will check both stores tomorrow and see if they stock them.
I have seen some on the Argos website. 40 pack for £11.99 (RSPCA puppy training pads) which I will purchase tomorrow if the above stores don't stock them. I'm just wondering if anyone here has used these for older dogs and if the absorbency is good? or could anyone recommened another brand?
Thanks

I havent ever used them, but I know there are some incontinance pants for dogs that some people find helpful... it may help keep her cleaner. Otherwise, if she is weeing in her sleep, something washable and draining like vet bed may be worth investigating.0

Thanks for the reply.
She tends to sleep on the wooden flooring and move about rather than sleep in her bed so I thought the diaper garment would be the best option.
I was looking for something like these two items, but I think they will have to be washed everyday even with the extra pads in?

If I get the training pads she will probably still soak herself before it goes on the mat so I think your right, the pants will help keep her dry (unless they leak), saving me from bathing her back end daily.A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
hmm.. it looks like they do need washing - would be difficult to manage unless you had a couple. I wonder if human (disposable) incontinence pads or nappies with a tail hole cut out would work?? Hopefully someone will be able to advise who has had similar experiences with their dog...0

Ok, this is going to make me sound very weird!
My last dog had a tumour on his bum and in an attempt to stop him chewing the area after surgery (he wouldnt wear a satellite dish collar thing) we used a small childs t-shirt with a hole cut in it for his tail. His back legs went through the arm holes (but please make sure they arent too tight.) tail through the hole and the bottom piece fitted around his middle.
If you could get a pad inside of this then it might keep it all snug and in place and would i imagine be a cheaper alternative to the links you posted.0 -
I have just purchased the training pads from B&M store (30 pack for £4.99). So a big saving from the pack I was going to purchase from Argos. They probably only last 2 weeks at the most as she is weeing 2 - 3 times per day.
I have been to two local pet shops and my nearest Pets-at-home store but none of them stock the diaper garment/pants so I will have to look online. I will continue to use the pads but it would be so much easier with pants to save me bathing her daily. I was thinking of buying some ordinary knickers and cutting the training pads to fit inside but I dont know what size she would be :laugh:A home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
You can get puppy training pads in PoundLand...funnily enough, for a pound! I THINK that they are either in packs of 5 or packs of 10. I have used them and they were fine for us. It does depend on when you go in though as sometimes they don't have certain things. Do you have a PoundLand near you?

Hello, I do have a poundland near me. I've just been in today for the Winalot caserole dog food but I didnt notice any training pads, not that I was looking though. I noticed them in Home Bargains today (8 pack for £1.50) but I will just get them from B&M when I need more.
I'm just searching for some diaper pants for her nowA home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0 -
I don't know if it's of any help, but our girl used to do this kind of thnig. Apparently it's quite common if they've been spayed. Apparently spaying can lead to a weakened sphincter. Anyhow she was put on to propalin drops for the rest of her life and it sorted out the problem. So it may be worthwhile asking your vet if that kind of treatment would be appropriate.0

My king charles was spayed when she was around 2 years old (she is 8/9 year old now) but we have never had any problem with wetting until she started on the frusemide tablets. I've put a few training pads down and she thinks its a new bed so she's lying on themA home without a dog is like a flower without petals.0

my 11yrs old spayed !!!!! is currently on propalin, thsi is the 3rd time.
she was on it last year coz steroids made her wet the bed, you should check with your vet and try it, it's not that expensive and would save all that washing.0
