on the setup page, just below the area where you enter the username and password there is an option to "keep Alive" or "Connect on Demand" if you check the "keep Alive" option it will be connected at all times.
Another thing to do for security is change the login and password from Admin this is the box which appears when you enter the IP address. This will stop anyone being able to access and change the router settings even if they manage to break the WEP encryption.Welcome, rogerramjet.

Are you sure you aren't getting your passwords mixed up. there is the router admin password, the ssid, and the wep key. The userid is admin.
If you have really forgotten it, then you'll have to reset it using the button at the back, and run through the setup again.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
If you are concerned about the security of your router alot of routers allow the blocking of unknown mac addresses so only your pcs can access it password or not. Personally I dont share files over my network and a few of my neighbours use my internet connection to save themselves money and I don't care as it don't cost me anymore. Sometimes I could do with controlling their bandwith a bit though.0

finally got into my settings, in the linksys wireless settings the option of "wireless SSID broadcast" and I have the option of disabling it.
If I disable I presume my devices will still be able to find the wireless network0 -
yes - if the are already connected it will be in the prefered networks and automatically look for it.
if you get any more wireless devices you just need to type in the ssid.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
have you done this bit:
right click on your wireless network icon, view available wireless networks, change advanced settings, wireless networks, highlight your ssid, properties, connection. Make sure "connect when this network is in range" is ticked. Click OK, advanced, make sure Access point (Infrastrucure) networks only is selected, and automatically connect to non-preferred networks is unticked.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

Have got no wireless network icons that I can see
Have disabled the wireless SSID broadcast from the linksys router site0 -
If you've let windows manage your wireless network card, then you should have an icon which looks like a PC with }} next to it in the bottom right hand corner next to the clock, you can also get to it by going into control panel, networks, wireless.
If you have installed software that came with a wireless card/dongle, then it may be managing the connection, but you should have similar options available in the settings.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
The laptoop has built in wireless but I will checkit when I turn it on to make sure.
From disabling the ssid broadcast have i made it even more secure from people in my street using my connection0
