Size of monitor with new PC

I've just bought a new PC http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/677790/dell-xps-7100-amd-x6-processor-ati-?page=8 and want to get a new widescreen monitor - my present one is a Hyundai 18" non-widescreen.
Should I get a 24" or a 22" and have you got any recommendations please?

I use 22" monitors and they do me fine
but if i was buying new now( i maybe soon) then it would be a 24"

Depends on what your budget is, but I'd always take a better 22" panel over a 24".

I have a nice 24", is excellent to work/play games/watch iplayer on but I did have to slide it back about 6" from where my 19" one used to sit to make viewing comfortable.... would struggle going back to anything smaller now

tho bear in mind not to go OTT now if you're planning buying 3D kit to go with your PC anytime soon as they're just starting to come out and need a compatible monitor

Things to think about : -

- Dell stuff [ unless top spec ] is total carrrp at the price point
- except their monitors, they are excellent
- you can buy an adequate BenQ for £100 less
- the Dell you mention has only has a [ general purpose ] TN panel
- viewing angles are a problem if you sit at any angle other than in front
- very good blacks and accurate colours
- LED backlit LCD monitor, it has DVI & VGA, but no HDMi

I would first suggest that you check that your PC graphics card will drive a 1920x1080 monitor (either VGA/D-Sub or DVI-D).

LATER: I have just checked the graphics card specification - no problem!

And if you are happy with the somewhat smaller screen (21½". but same 1920x1080 resolution), why not consider the BenQ G2222HDL? From Ebuyer, it's well over £100 cheaper than the Dell G2410 (but you'll have to include a DVI-D to DVI-D cable if you want the improved quality, since there's none in the box).

But if you want a Really, Really Good But Expensive monitor, look at the just-out Dell U2211H or U2311H monitors (with IPS panels, rather than the usual TN). Same pixel resolution as before, but one screen is slightly larger than the other...

It depends upon what your going to be using it for.... Graphics work requires high quality, sharp image and excellent colour replication, where as gaming and video requires a fast refresh rate / response time. To get both you'll pay a small fortune, so you need to decide what it's primary use will be.

Go for the largest screen size you can get, but make sure the PC's graphics card can handle it....

A 22" widescreen will need a resolution of 1680x1050, if the graphics card can't handle that, then you'll have wasted money

I use a Dell 2209WA at home. My decision was primarily based around its gaming performance but I can say with all honesty its got the best picture quality out of every monitor I've owned and I've not seen anything better for similar money.

What are you intending to use the computer for? There's a lot more to consider with a monitor than just the size of the panel.
