Son maybe returning home, he is 17 years old in a weeks time, he was on income support, it has been suspended until they get a letter comfirming he is no longer at college, if he comes home, what benefits does he get? Or do i just put him back on child benefit and child tax? Does he have to be in full time education before i can apply for child benefit?
What benefit would he get for coming home, if any at all?

Thank you[/QUOhe claims in his own right if he isnt in education.if he is in full time education he is classed as a child til 20th birthday.as long as you get child benefit you can claim ctc for him if you are on benefit yrself i think.if he isnt at school/college he isnt dependant on you and can claim for himself or get a job.

    Thank you

If he is full time non advanced education or registered with Connexions you can claim CB and CTC for him, if not you can claim nothing.

Thanks to the last few posters for trying to help. Unfortunately once again we seem to have lost the OP because of some smartass comments which were unhelpful. This site is failing to do its job when this happens.
  • With respect, relying on a public message board populated by many people with little expertise and big opinions for specific benefits advice is, at best, unwise. I'll accept that my contribution was not the most helpful and appoligies for its flippancy. But the OP has now gone to CAB, which is a far better source of the specific information she requires.

The OP was very vague about things. She does not say what benefits she claims. So no wonder people have not been able to help.

If the son is not in education or registered with connections then no benefits for her. He should be out looking for a job and/or claiming JSA. It is then between the OP and her Son to thrash out housekeeping.
