O2 have SOLD my number to sales companies!
I have been with O2 for 11 years with the only sales calls coming from O2, but today I have had two sales calls and one text message.
It said:
"Our records indicate you may be entitled to 3750 pounds for the Accident you had..."
(I have had no accident, but I might commit one!)
"...To claim for free reply with AID to this msg. To opt out text STOP"
So even if I opt out it might work for this company, but I'm gonna get loads now aren't I?
I am livid that O2 have sold my personal information to sales companies.
Also, how can I stop getting these calls and messages again from other companies?
thank you

Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?

How do you know it was O2? Surely you have given your mobile number to other companies in the last eleven years? Have you tried registering with the Telephone Preference Service? I get those same calls on my landline and I am not with O2.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

i doubt o2 will have sold it,more likely you have used the number on a form or something, for example when listing a car for sale online.
i seem to use my mobile number all the time when filling in contact details on forms on tinternet for anything gas, elec etc.0 -
Sorry I should have explained further:
Both sales calls knew my mobile phone was with O2 before I even had chance to speak. They definitely weren't O2.
Now that info isn't anywhere but with O2!

i think your network provider can be identified by the combination of first few digits of number??0 -
I thought this was in the old days, but as I'm still with original network, it would apply to mine, so I stand corrected, thank you.Look at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0

More correctly the original network of the number, if it's been ported it may be wrong but set big blocks belong to a set network and the chances are most are not ported across.0 -

So O2 are selling your number to a marketing company who is trying to get you to move to Vodafone? Great business plan, eh?0 -
My partner is in exactly the same boat. Gets two or three of these messages a day or sometimes even calls. Always about being guaranteed a loan of up to £3,000 or an accident claim for £3,750.
Number definitely hasn't been given out to anyone except Uni, work and friends...and it's only started happening since moving onto an o2 contract.0 -

Nothing to do with giving it out at all.
Automated dialers are cheap, lets say I dial 07123 000000 and then go to 000001 then 000002 chances are someone will answer sooner or later and as has been said out of a million numbers most will still be on the original network.0
