They definitely tell you on new awards, but whether they did eight years ago I couldn't say. Unfortunately the onus is on the claimant to check their entitlement, even though it would make sense for such an award to automatically trigger an IS application pack to be sent the the claimant.
Ive been on DLA from `93 and the page has always been there but when you read the "headline" that you have an award the last three pages or so go out of the window, thats why so many people get lost on the criteria.
kezza read every page if/when you get a new award, it neednt be done when your in a great mood because of the letter but the information is VERY important and its there to help you, you need to read the information to make sure that you get what you are entitled too and also that you know of the changes that you need to let them know about.0 -

It would be helpful if they just sent out an IS form with the decisions. I really had no idea i would qualify.Ive been on DLA from `93 and the page has always been there but when you read the "headline" that you have an award the last three pages or so go out of the window, thats why so many people get lost on the criteria.

I certainly will be reading it all. To be honest when that letter comes and i see i've been awarded it again, the relief is so overwhelming, i only read the bit about how much i get and at what levels.
I'm so pleased i plucked up the courage to come on here and ask for advice or i would never have known. Its certainly given me something to hope for.0 -

if you get reawarded dla then you will get £321.50 per fortnight income support less your incap of 212.00= £109.50 income support every fortnight.0 -

wow thank you. I cannot tell you how much of a difference this will make to me. I think i might actually be able to sleep tonight knowing i can improve things.0 -
Just a quick thought. If i get more benefit through IS, i will have to tell housing benefit and council tax benefit, and then i'll have to pay more to them won't i? Will i not lose most of that £50 a week to paying more rent and council tax?0

no because you get some income support you will get 100% council tax/housing benefit so will pay nil.0 -
ahhhhh ok. Brilliant. Thank you.
That means i'll be at least another £50 better off not paying rent and council tax. Wow, i can finally see a way of reducing my overdraft and starting to get myself out of debt once and for all.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH for such helpful advice.0 -

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
