Growing berry fruits in pots.

I love many different kinds of fruit, but the summer fruits like raspberries, strawberries, blackberries and many more.
Now i know strawberries can grow well in containers, but how well do say raspberries, blueberrys, blackberries and others do in containers?
I know they need deepish pots but can you get a semi decent crop?
Our strawberries are flying and theres dollops coming but would like more lovely fruit cheers:D:drool:

I have blueberries and gooseberries in pots, raspberries are far better in the ground as they like to spread out - saying that I have two in the ground and two in pots at the moment - to be transplanted later)
I would assume blackberries are the same as raspberries.

My raspberries are in a big pot and you can tell they are dying to get out, they get really big, as chimera says I imagine the other ones will be the same too.

So raspberries and blackberries cant be done in pots then. Shame as not having loads of space i wouldve liked to have tried it so we may have had more summer fruit to hand on the patio.

We have some blackcurrants in pots too. I've never been impressed with the amount of fruit they produce though.

Thanks. So the general opinion is raspberries and blackberries arent suited to pots. But blueeberries and others can but you will yield a far less crop.
However if space is at a premium some is better than none imo!

I'd go for it if you can't put them in the ground, my £2 wilko raspberry has about 8 flowers on...which is a start seeing as only bought it this year and is in a largish pot, give it a go.

Cheers, can i ask though is there any 'specially designed' canes/bushes, that are native to the wild, that are trained specifically for pots and small spaces?.
Reasons i ask is there is 'dwarf' apple trees on the market, thanks:beer:

I've also got 2 blueberry plants in large pots and as they need ericacous (sp?) compost that's where they will stay!

The website blurb from where I got them says that they do well in pots but they will do better if you have more than one, infact some varieties aren't self fertile so you need to have several. The variety I have are supposed to be self fertile but I should get a much better yield from both as I have two.

Have also got two raspberries in large pots but like everyone above says they are better in the ground.

Well i think im going to give it a go. Ill get some deep galvanised pots and see how i fair. It seems some people have had success, others havent, but its all a game i suppose of trial and error.
It would be great to have lots of different kinds of fruit to select from your own garden and thats what i want to do.
Growing your own fruit and veg appears to becoming more popular were we are anyway:beer:

I remember seeing gooseberries trained like standard roses in a large pot. Pansies were planted around the edge.

    It looked great.
