Carphone Warehouse/02 Direct
Hi,
Wonder if anyone is able to help, am currently on an 18 month contract with o2 through the carphone warehouse, this ends in August but am able to upgrade at the end of the month as they allow you to upgrade 2 months early!
Looking at the new i phone (shock) but after speaking to a friend who is a bit more clued up on these kinda things he has advised that I can upgrade directly through o2 without taking out a new contract etc, Can anyone confirm if this is indeed the case and if so how I go about it?
Also would I incur any penalties from Carphone for doing so?
Thanks

There's no way any network will upgrade you without taking a new contract.
None of them will just give you a free phone without a tie in, they'd go bust in few months.0 -
Sorry I didn't phrase that correctly, I mean if I went to o2 direct could I upgrade the handset/contract through them without any hassle rather than go through carphone who my contract is originally with?0

I tried the same thing just before christmas, short answer is no cos Carphone Warehouse treat it as a total new contract and you have to finish paying their contract.
The figure they gave me was £75 to cancel early but i let my direct debit run out to the end cos it would'nt have cost me that anyway so wasnt worth it.
Hope this helps0 -
Just thought - you will be able to go direct with O2 after that, they will recognise you from your original contract & will give you a good deal on a new phone & contract, they did with me0

One contract has absolutely nothing to do with the other (unless it is your decision not to run cocurrent contracts even for two months). You can obtain as many seperate contracts from as many sources as you like, provided they are happy to supply you with mulitple contracts. Some dealers have a basic limit on the number regardless of network, the networks decide how many each customer is allowed on an individual basis.0
