Food poisoning

sorry this is a long post ...
We went away at the weekend to dorset and stayed in a caravan,
whilst there we went to morrisons and I ate cooked chicken legs,
and a mixed salad from the salad bar.
Came home 3 hours later and that night came over in agony of pain in my stomach , it went all hard and then I got S & D
and couldnt leave the toilet for 5 hours.
The pains in my stomach and back were the worst pain Ive ever had in my life and I collapsed, hubby helped me back to bed.
Called doctor and he said , it certainly sounds like food poisoning ,
he checked everything I ate that day , which was the above + toast and apple. I couldnt take any fluid or painkillers cos I was too sick and doctor wanted me on a drip.
But later in the day I managed to avoid this and drink a little.
I am sitting in bed now and have not eaten since sunday , I have drunk 2 glasses of fluid today but my stomach is still in trouble , it hurts so much and is swollen. I can not stand up.
My huband said we should contact morrisons so they can stop this happening to anyone else. That was yesturday , the manager said he doesnt think its possible cos they have strict guidelines, so that was that. Then this afternoon I had a phone call from morrisons , a lady said she was from the technical department, to be honest I felt too weak to take it all in so its a bit vague. But she asked me so many questions , what time did we buy the food = 12midday , what time did we eat it = 12.30 pm. When did the symptoms start , what are the symptoms, what did the doctor say. Do you have any of the food left in the bin = no we threw it away at the camp site.
Then she said she will be in touch in the next few days and they are sending my interview to somewhere ? for them to decide if it was food poisoning or not.
She said , it sounds like it was to her but they need to look into things further. She also said she is sending something in the post , but didnt say what , maybe its a letter to sign , I dont know.
Has this ever happened to you or anyone else , I honestly felt like I was dying and dont know what to think, think Im still traumatised from the experiance , I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.
sorry I just need to vent.

They are right on saying they have pretty strict about food stuff regular temp reading records that have to kept over wise disciplinary action is taken which is your main are of concern for cooked food hygiene overly there is stuff hand washing gloves etc.
What you got to figure out is if it food poisoning or a stomach bug. If its food poisoning the symptoms fit with the time frame for the chicken. If its a stomach bug then its probably something you eat the day before. It cna be difficult to tell the difference.
Hope you get well soon.0 -
Thanks , just had another gp speak to me and she said
It does sound like food poisoning because its such a extream reaction. I suppose it doesnt matter now It will not be proven either way , unless other people come forward,
I know I will never EVER eat from them displays again.Kindness costs nothing0 -
Evening knowing what checks they carry out and stuff I wouldn't either. Even if they been kept at proper temps and stuff they been sat there for so long there usually not that nice to eat anyway. I'm not an expert by a long way but it does sound like food poisoning.0

Have you contacted environmental health - there may have been other cases as well as yours and they will investigate, track back etc.0

no I havent contacted them , I thought morrisons would , but maybe they wont cos its not in their interest .
Had a bad night , I drank flat sugar lemonade last night and 3 fruit pastils (first food since sunday) cos I thought I was improving and this morning I have gone backwards , doctor is taking a sample but as its been since sunday it might be too late to get a positive result .
Thanks for the help I will contact the enviromental health for a chat .Kindness costs nothing0 -

My experience of bacterial dysentery from 25+ years ago is not to eat anything solid, but you must keep taking fluids regularly to replace all the fluids being lost from your body. (Lucozade Sport, an isotonic drink may be preferred to ordinary lemonade). One of the symptoms of de-hydration is a thumping headache, as the brain actually shrinks. Eating solid food just causes severe pain and cramps in your digestive system, as your gut will be ulcerated due to the invading organism that's colonised it. However, you may find that 'live' yoghurt will assist in re-colonising your gut with 'friendly' bacteria."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
The exact same thing happened to me some months ago, I put it down to a tummy bug rather than food poisioning, and decided not to be so paranoid!
Recently we had another chicken and salad from Morrisons, and the same thing happened! Im avoiding the chicken and salad now, dont know which one it was, and dont want to experiment with chicken one day and salad the next!
I was really ill, worsed Ive ever been. Too ill to contact environmental health and discuss it, I just felt ghastly and just wanted to get well, and could just imagine a little man in a lab coat coming round from env. health with a little pot for me to 'fill':o.
This might help..

morrisons won't contact environmental health. its not like they want to be investigated.
the best advice would have been for you to give your doctor a sample for testing, then inform environmental health so that they could visit. on their visit they may have taken a sample from the food/kitchens at morrisons, and if the two matched up then hey presto, morrisons are in trouble. without evidence it's unlikely that the local authority can prosecute. but on their visit to morrisons they may find other inadequacies so your complaint to environmental health would be better then not telling them at all.
i personally wouldn't tell morrisons much. they are a business covering their own backs.0
