Shortlisting before job officially closed

Hi guys.

Job closed yesterday, closing date simply stated '7th June'. Job was still advertised on the website until close of play yesterday. However, they shortlisted in the morning and the successful candidates were contacted at lunchtime yesterday.

My question is, what rights, if any, or cause for complaint would those people have who submitted their applications yesterday, i.e. late morning or in the afternoon?

Thanks in advance!

Lets face facts half the companies advertising jobs are just going through the motions and already know who the job is going to.

I'm not sure I agree with you on that one?

Oh, it's not a company, it's a school by the way.

The succesful candidate has definitely been chosen then:rotfl::rotfl:

Most adverts now also include a time for when applications have to be in by

It does seem though that they short-listed very quickly.

What makes you say that? Internal candidates are a problem everywhere, but I've known many external candidates lately who have got jobs at schools.

Whether you choose to agree with me or not is up to you.

Schools, companies, loads of places are required to advertise a vacancy even if the management already has someone unofficially lined up. So they go through the motions and advertise it with no intention of giving the job to anyone other than the person they have in mind.

To believe that this doesn't go on is naive at best.

I'm not naive! I have been a victim of the dreaded 'internal candidate' myself.

I have reason to believe there isn't an internal candidate on this occasion as the person who is leaving will be present at the interview.

    None.

The school may be in breach of the local/education authority equal opportunity policy but that means nothing for you.

A closing date is a closing date not a closing time & date.

This doesn't mean that they have someone already in mind - could even be a relative of an existing member of staff.
