Please can I have some mozilla advice..

Hi,
I usually use Chrome but this particular course I am doing only allows IE or Mozilla so I have no choice.

When using Chrome I have no problems and everything opens as it should so I don't think it's Norton related (yes you read that right) lol

When I try to open a link within this course the page just tries to load forever, I have tried all the usual updates Java/shockwave etc and the literature doesn't give me any clues, I suspect I need some sort of Mozilla add on, any advice would be very welcome, Thanks.

What's the page link? If you can't get it to load on either Chrome or Mozie then it's more likely to be a problem with the website. Paste the link here and let us try.

They don't support chrome, only Mozilla or IE, I can't paste the link as it's something I have to log onto unfortunately. Thanks for your reply.

OK. Still sounds like a site problem rather than browser problem to me. Majority of sites will load on all browsers, the only difference being that the frames may be in the wrong places and some of the flash/java content may not display.

I thought it was flash/java related too, but I have downloaded the updates and re booted.

this is what it says in Chrome:

Unfortunately, the browser you are using is not supported in this version.
Please use Windows Internet Explorer 6.0 and above or Firefox 2.0 and above to view this course.

    Thank You.

I'm not even getting a log-in screen, just a 404 error. That says to me that the site is down.

No, it says the site is up, but the page cannot be served

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_404 refers

This is consistent with what Blackpool Saver says about needing to be logged on.

No great help to you, but it basically means
    • The site is technically rubbish with coding problems [because any properly coded site should be accessible to any modern browser]
    • The site is known by its authors to be technically mediocre, so they have locked it down to the browsers they think they can get away with.
Really, we are not going to be able to help you here, you will have to take it up with the site's tech support, I am sorry to say.

Try using an agent spoofer in chrome that will lie to the website and tell it that it is infact IE or Firefox or an iphone or whatever you want it to think :D

    http://www.renjusblog.com/2010/03/google-chrome-user-agent-switcher.html

    give that a read.

As for why it doesn't work in other browsers, need more info on which error you get when you try, or does it just hang? If it is a 404 or just hangs, check you have given that browser full permissions in the firewall, try clearing cookies/temp internet files and all that and restarting.

Saving for a year in Japan.
I need around £10,000. Help me get there!

According to TFA, it hangs. 404 is just the error everyone else gets. It does not 404 for OP, it hangs.
